I'm almost done
Just 19 more working days for me, and then I'm going to retire from my current job. It's too physically demanding for my tired old knees. There are some other issues for me, as well, but I won't go into those. I've been doing this for nearly 22 years, and while I'm still relatively young (I'll be 58 at the end of December), I'm not young enough to continue taking the strain imposed on my joints.
I'll have to look for something else, even if it's part-time, to help with finances, and to keep me from going stir-crazy. I'm heading to the LHBS on Saturday for more supplies, and I'm going to inquire there if they need any help. I don't expect it'll get me anything, but hey, you don't ask, you don't get.

Congrads Monsieur Chapeau, retirement is a big step into the unknown. I know that for a fact. I got pushed out of my job after 41 years at age 59. Downsizing and the threat of going on a 7 day rotating shift pushed me to make that decision. However,my lovely SWMBO is 7 years younger, and continues to work plus I now get SS and have a good pension and benefits.Retirement is great.I love every day of it. I always brew on a weekday,so the Mrs. doesn't have to put up with the odors, and dosen't see the messes I sometimes make. I hope that you can enjoy your new found freedom without having to work too hard to make ends meet. Cheers

Good luck and congratulations. You might have time to change up your brew schedule now.

Congrats on the retirement. Like Jeff said, now you can brew on a Wednesday if you like.

All the best in whatever you decide. I'm ages away though I've worked a long time but one can dream.
Enjoy whatever you do.

OH NO, SAY IT AIN'T SO!
I thought of starting a pool to predict the day that this happened, then I realized that no one would kick in money as Dave is a creature of routine.
Maybe a poll?
Congrats Dave. I've been semi-retired for a few years, not by choice, but not willing to relo for opportunities and filling my days with eldercare issues, managing in-law's and mother's retirement funds, etc. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Good for you!!! ENJOY! You got me by a year in age but I'll more than likely be working for another 10+ years. Have a desk job but the Forrest Gumps I deal with make my brain hurt!

Dave, I don't know your situation, but most retired guys have little trouble finding a part time job. But try full retirement first. I bet you have a long list of repairs to your house you can catch up on. There is hop growing to start, and other gardening, more brewing, of course. If you are still bored, I can help you find a classic boat. That will keep you busy. You can always make more money, you can't make more time. Enjoy yourself.

Jealous! Congratulations! Enjoy!

BEST OF LUCK, Dave! While I'm not officially retired, I just come in to work and they still pay me so, I may have to keep doing this for at least 7 more years (unless something happens before then, like a lottery!)

I am soooo jealous, the end! seriously Dave I wish you the best. As I approach retirement age I find myself thoroughly enjoying my weekends and vacation days off from work. Plan on reconnecting with friends and family and finally after a lonnggg career not having to plan life around work. None of us are going to live forever and we can't take it with us either, so good luck to you and just enjoy being in charge of your own life once again.

Re: I'm almost done
The fact is, we can't afford for me to take full retirement, and I do still want to stay in the work force. I just can't take the driving, and the workout my legs get from the walking on uneven grades, the squatting, the crawling.... And, as I mentioned in the OP, the other issues that I'm just done with after putting up with for 21+ years.
If I can get something local at a place like Home Depot or even a supermarket, I'll take it, just to stay active and bring in some $$. I don't want my wife to have to carry the entire financial burden for us.
I'll probably still brew on Sundays if I'm able, though. It just keeps the schedule more regular.

Dave Congrats and welcome to the retirees members of the BORG....close to a year for me now and love it. If you want to work somewhere else, try to keep it part time, if you think you will do more BBQ and brewing now, probably not.
