Post by The_Professor »

CONGRATULATIONS TO swenocha FEBRUARY 2017 BREWER OF THE MONTH!

Does this mean we have all been Swenned or does it mean that only Swen has been Swenned?

Here are the interview questions for you Swen:
1) When did you start brewing and how did you become interested?
2) Who would you most like to share a beer with?
3) What is your favorite beer?
4) Do you have a beer recipe you'd like to share?

Hey, thanks all. It's been fun to be back around on a more regular basis and to be brewing again.

1) Started in 2009 with the traditional Mr. Beer Christmas purchase. I had been into craft beer for a while, and 3 co workers brewed, so I got interested. Wife bought the LBK as a gift (I think she's regretted it ever since). Did the base kit, found the old forum (joined around the same time as Screwy, Hat, and a few others), and by the 2nd batch was grain steeping and hop boiling. By mid year, I was experimenting with all grain. Brewing has kind of ebbed and flowed since then based on schedule, but have always kept an occasional BIAB brewing and/or ciders fermenting.

2) Tough one. I've been able to share beers with so many great people both in homebrewing and commercial brewing. I'd say after doing the Sierra tour last week, that I might say Ken Grossman, but my opinion on that would change by the day.

3) another tough one, as i have tasted a lot of great ones in so many different styles. If I had to pick a regular everyday beer (as opposed to a Cantillon or something similarly special), I'd lean Yazoo Dos Perros. Or maybe Alpha King, since it was my intro to IPAs (yeah, yeah... not an IPA, I know...).

4) will add a recipe tomorrow..

Since I noted Dos Perros as one of my favorite everyday beers, here's the recipe I'm choosing to post. This is based on the earlier version of Dos Perros (back when it was 3.5%... it is now 4.9%). The recipe is based on discussions with Linus and other methods (put away the phone, BlackDuck...). I ferment low on this one... like below 65. I like this one because it's an easy drinking light beer that has some nice character...

Well deserved, especially since he didn't call out Inglourious Basterd for stealing his "vast bastard of knowledge" sig.

Good job, Swen.
