About Jim Johnson
Jim Johnson, a long time Mr. Beer and Borg member, has taken ill and doesn't have long. His wife Lisa sent a message saying that he is home and on hospice and doesn't have very long.

Re: About Jim Johnson
That is awful. I had sent him an email a few weeks back because he's been gone from both forums since Jan 1st.
We kid on forums about stuff, and we give awards for things that don't matter. Jim is a nice guy, period, and the world will be a worse place without him. He ranted on here about how he couldn't brew because his daughter and her family were in his house for what seemed like forever, but you could tell he loved having his grandkids around.
I don't pray, and I tend to stay away from the posts where people tell us about their personal lives and such, but this has really struck me. I just sent an email to him hoping Lisa will get it and read it to him. Jim stayed on the Mr. Beer forum when most left, because he genuinely liked to help people (not that others don't, but he didn't care about the other BS). He just wanted to help new brewers, which is why he took a job in a homebrew store when the opportunity arose.
Many of us are very different, with different educational backgrounds, different financial situations, different non-beer interests. If I ranked the 30 or so active board members in terms of how much I liked them based upon my perception of them from an online forum, Jim would be at the top of the list (sorry guys). He seemed like a very nice guy, sort of a "gentle giant". The world will be a worse place when he departs it.
I drove through Georgia the first week in January, and didn't pass anywhere near where he lives, but had I known I would have gone out of my way to see him.
Tonight I will try and remember to raise a glass to Jim in his honor, and hope he has a peaceful end surrounded by the family that loves him.
Jim, I'm better for having known you, even if it was just online. Farewell my friend.

This is hard news to take. I am glad I got to meet him in Nashville and very much enjoyed the meet.
I wish there were more I could do besides prayers and good thoughts.
Dag, if you have a chance to have more contact with Lisa, please let her know we are thinking about them all and keep us updated.

Chatted with him in the tap room on quite a few occasions since I joined the Borg. I sensed from our conversations that he would be one of the Borg members I would most likely want to get to know more. This is sad news.

A good man. We had some interesting private messages and a little correspondence. I wish his family peace.

So sorry Jim, you will be remembered as one of the Borg's best. Although we never met in person your presence will be missed.
