Is The Bruery selling out too?

Post by Beer-lord »

I've not talked to my friend who's son in law works at the Bruery to find out more about this but I wonder what's going on there. I hate to read between the lines but somethings not right.

Looks to me like it's just a financial arrangement to give them more money to expand. Maybe it's an attempt to ensure they don't get acquired by a big brewery.

Could be along the same lines as Oskar Blues and Cigar City being under the thumb of an investment firm.

Probably is, and I hope is stays that way. However, If you look at the portfolio of the investment firm, they have invested in two other beverage companies, Essentia Water, and Fuze Beverages. Essentia is in their current lineup, and they sold Fuze to Coca-Cola in 2007. So I guess in the future, they could always dump it to one of the BMC companies if the price is right.

My friend lives in Japan so I sent him an email to ask about his son in law. He was visiting them in March and never heard of any news at all so he thinks all is good. But, losing key members of the team is of some concern.
We get some of their beer here. It's not my style but I will say, they have a huge following and do make some serious beers. I've sampled a few of their sour beers and some were pretty good for a non sour guy. The ones I really like are their imperial stouts. Wow, they'll knock you on your kiester before you know it if you're not careful.

This ^^^.

Private equity firms make investments to then flip a company in 3 - 6 years. Of note, Northern was bought by a private equity company, then they bought Midwest, then they sold to ABInBev.

You will see this flipped anywhere from 12 months to 6 years from now. Based on trends, I'd bet under 36 months, closer to 24.

Edit - their website says "We Bring Operational Expertise to Private Equity". This is NOT a hands-off investment.
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...
