Classy move from Russian River
I thought somebody posted the article last week that showed "America's Top Beers" but maybe I imagined it. In short, Bell's Two Hearted Ale knocked Pliny The Elder out of hte top spot (#1 ranking) after Pliny held it for the past 7 years.
Yes the ratings are subjective, etc. etc. but this was posted on Russian River's Favebook page today (along with a picture of the beer being boxed up):
"Congratulations to our friends @bellsbrewery for your best beer accolades in the annual Zymurgy readers poll! #twoheartedale finally knocked #plinytheelder off his throne after reigning for seven straight years! Please enjoy this "second place" beer to help with the celebration. Twelve bottles of Two Hearted might fit perfectly in that box if you are so inclined! Cheers! #rrbc #rrbccrew #craftbeer"
Whether they know each other or not, this was a classy act in my book.

Nice!!!
I want to think that they all get along and actually savor in others victories and good tidings and are also there when don't go so well too.
Kinda like us.

Re: Classy move from Russian River
One word: Classy.
Two words: Classy ass. Or should that be one hyphenated word?
Nice job, RR. Some cynics might say it's just a PR move. Others might say it's a way of humble-bragging that they were on top for nearly a decade. I prefer to think the best. When you know how good you are, you also acknowledge how good others are, and it doesn't diminish you in any way to congratulate a champion. I've never understood the philosophy of "Not only must I succeed, but others must fail." That's for insecure losers.

I shared the latest listing of top beers with a friend who always has Two Hearted in his fridge.
I see a big difference between the 2 of course but when I got back to brewing after a very long sabbatical, one of the first I brewed was Two Hearted. It's place at the top is worthy as is Pliny.
Vinnie never forgot where he came from.

From everything I've read and seen, this seems to be true. He cares about his beer, his community in Santa Rosa and craft beer in general.Beer-lord wrote:Vinnie never forgot where he came from.
Could they have done this without putting it on social media? Sure. But I think sharing what they did isn't about bragging or reminding people that they were #1 and more about showing that it's ok to boost each other up.

This is how it should always be in my perfect little world.
Re: Classy move from Russian River
Two-Hearted is my goto beer, but I live in Bell's country. I love most ALL Bell's beers. Being in the Chicago suburbs, I also have a a second home near Kalamazoo, the hometown of Bell's. All that being said, the Pliny clones are really among my favorites, as well as the favorites of my friends. All I can say is well done Russian River!

Vinnie is nothing but class. When he heard that one of our local buddies developed cancer, he sent the guy two signed bottles of the cancer fundraiser beer they did a year or two ago...
