Budweiser does a good deed

Post by alb »

While they deserve chastisement for their heavy-handed business practices, Budweiser also deserves a moment of grace now and then for their patriotic undertakings and generosity. Yes, I realize it's good marketing, but still...

Hokie setup but a heart-warming story. I have a special place in my heart for the military and their families and this stuff tugs at my tear ducts!
Kudos to them for stepping up to help those who help others.

That is pretty awesome. I guess every thorn bush has a rose every now and then!! A good program given to a well deserved family.

I'm torn on this. Yes, this brought a tear to my eye and I love seeing people/companies step up and do the right thing to honor our veterans.

BUT, this just comes across as hypocritical to me. With one hand, they honor veterans and support those who fight for our freedom, giving others the ability to chase their dreams and live the true American spirit. With the other hand they do everything in their power to prevent free and open competition which in itself is the true American way. So yes, I'm happy this program exisists and is able to help not only this family, but others like them - but I still don't think they are the "good guys".

I also realize that InBev, and Budweiser themselves, are a large company and are likely very siloed in their actions and business practices. But, that doesn't make it right.

Finally, I like Adam Driver and have searched out shows/movies that he's been in since seeing him in The Force Awakens. He's a godo actor (IMO) and always seemed like a stand-up guy. I didn't know he was a veteran, so kudos to him for for getting involved in this as well.

I'll get off my soapbox now and use this time to once again thank every veteran on this board, their families and friends who supported them and everybody involved in the military and law enforcement. It's usually a thankless job - so thank you.

I feel somewhat the same except that they have been doing service and patriotic commercials for a few decades. Of course they have to 'walk the line' but I'd rather see them do this, even hypocritically then do the opposite.

I try to keep an open mind and don't like the news the last few months about what they've done but it's kind of like the tv preachers who are arse's. But if they happen to make a few souls happy, even by accident, I'm ok with that.

So, i've got lots of emotion on this......Not a bud fan but THIS is what big, money making companies should be doing....taking care of those that took/take care of us. I don't mean this in an entitled way, but in a THANKFUL way.

Regardless of how cheesy and advertised this is, if they're helping someone 's family who risked their life for me, I'm all for it.

Won't make me buy or drink a bud beer, but makes me feel like crap that I don't thank enough of those that sacrificed for me to keep my ass at home while watching them protect our country on tv.

I am not worthy to even be in the same room with those folks.

Good deeds don't erase bad deeds. Bad deeds don't negate good deeds. And, to be honest, we can all say the same about ourselves. Certainly I'm not a saint, but I still manage to do the right thing most times.

So I will give credit where it's due. As alb said, their business practices are odious, but this is a shining example of what's right and just. Looking at this family, and the young woman's reaction, I have no doubt she will make the most of this generosity. And her influence will resonate among countless others for countless years.

I have to support that.
