Im going to disagree. Bottling at home works just fine and I and others here have stored beer for months, sometimes well over a year without issue.
I don't disagree that proper crowling machines do this, but I don't see why the average homebrewer couldn't can with the same success we see when bottling.
Yes, bottles have a smaller neck and *may* expose the beer to less oxygen than canning (at home), but until I see proof of this I have to believe the average homebrewer would have similar results as bottling.

Are you referring to bottling from a keg? Or bottling by adding sugar to the bottle for carbonation? I don't believe these home machines are intended to self-carbonate, but perhaps I am wrong.

Drinkable beer on hand -  13.58 cases, with 6.11 cases ready in May and early June.
Average cost per 12 pack through all beer brewed - $6.27(ingredients only)

I was thinking of bottling/canning from the keg but I hadn't thought about priming, really. In either case, I can't see how it would be different from a bottle. Anybody want to buy one and provide some hands-on feedback?

I'll admit that I'm not sure what we're debating at this point :lol:

I don't disagree that using a beer gun with the ability to purge CO2 is the best way to ensure success with both bottling and canning. I'm just saying that many homebrewers, myself included, already bottle without a beer gun and purging CO2 without issue. Does it go against accepted BEST PRACTICES? Yes. But does it work? Yep.

I just *think* I could achieve similar results as bottling at home with one of these, without the beer gun and purge.

Maybe we're not even disagreeing.....?

I agree, or maybe I'm disagreeing? Anyway. I have a beer gun and really don't use it much anymore. When I bottle from the keg, I reduce pressure and transfer into the bottle slowly, without purging with CO2. It still foams a little, which is what I'm after. I just cap it right on the foam. Works rather well. I'm sure the same would occur with the cans, as long as you top it and seal it directly on the foam. I see very little chance of oxygenation.
