Yeah, the IBUs show high on the recipe but it never really tastes bitter like you would think it would. Just a damn good session ale. Sorry to hear you might have to brew another 5 gallons of this. Oh, the problems we have!
I'm sure it's going to be good, regardless of the FG. I think mine could use some more aroma, so I may dry hop later, too. We'll see after I get to feeling 100% and have a few more.
Sorry, your dead wrong, I've started brewing all my recipes as 6 gallons, not 5.
So much is lost with hops funk and all the yeast trub that I just find it better to brew an extra gallon. Still don't get 5 in the keg though.

Since I was dry hopping the Summer Ale in the keg I decided to hit the Levitation, too. It wasn't as strong in the aroma department as I wanted and I'm guessing that the gelatin is to blame here, too.
I dropped in 1/2oz of Amarillo and 1oz Simcoe in a nylon bag with a shotglass since the Summer Ale got the glass marbles. We'll see what difference a few days of this makes this weekend.
My Levitation has only be on gas 2 days but I decided to taste it tonite just to see where it's headed. It's rather un-eventful. I'm going to wait until Friday and see how it goes then likely dry hop in the keg.I"m thinking of 1 oz Amarillo and 1/2 Simcoe....the opposite of what you used.
So, Ron and Jeff, the first time you made this one (with or without the gelatin) what type of aroma did it have? I taste a slight roasted flavor. Could the crystal 75 and 150 and the slight amount of black malt do that? I have a Stone Levitation here to try a side by side but the color is dead on. I can't believe the gelatin could have done much in 36 hours. I guess I will have to make this again and leave it be. I know it's still early and young but I was expecting more from this. So far, I don't get 60 + IBU's from this.

I can't recall if we used the same recipe of if they were slightly different. Maybe yours was BYO and mine was from CYBI?
In any case, when I brewed it before it had a nice citrusy/flowery aroma but I don't recall getting anything roasted in the taste. I tend to think of roasted/toasted as the same thing and what I taste in porters so that's why I say that. I pick up a bit of caramel sweetness and then some great hop flavor - in my previous batch.
This time around it is a bit muted and I blame the gelatin for that, too. It's the only thing that makes sense to me.
And I never got 60 IBUs from Levitation (the original or the clone) and that's what made it a great session beer to me. It had a lot of flavor but not a lot of bitterness. I'm curious to see what your side by side yields.
My recipe says 1oz of Black Patent and 50 IBUs. I don't think I get 50, but I haven't had a glass tonight and think the Pliny may have stunted my IBUer.
No roast here, just a nice Amber Ale that smells of hops.

Tried another taste tonite and I didn't get the same roast notes. I do taste a slight yeast flavor but I'm not a huge fan of 04 so maybe that's it. I'm definitely going to dry hop this with 1 oz of Amarillo and 1/2 of Simcoe tomorrow night. I'm drinking some of this on Sunday so almost 4 days with dry hops is going to be enough.

Mine is 1oz Black Patent Malt and 63.1 IBUS, but it doesn't taste that way from a bitter standpoint - which is a good thing for this beer IMO.
Going to try another one tonight. I just keg-hopped yesterday so I'm going to try one each night to see how long it takes to have an impact.
Hmmm, keg-hopped....can I Trademark that, too?
Damn, can't find a superscript code that works here

Yes, as long as I get credit for having done it here first.

Ah, you DID it first but I cam up with the catch-phrase!
Tell you what, every time somebody says it we'll charge them a quarter. You get $.10 and I get $.15...deal?
I pulled a pint tonight and can already smell a faint difference. Nice.
What's really interesting is that my crystal clear beer is now murky
I'm guessing it will settle a bit over the next few days but honestly at this point I don't care. Like Paul said, I'll trade clarity for a better beer.
OK, the deed is done. 1 oz Amarillo, 1/2 Simcoe in the keg.
I tasted it before keg-hopping (.15 more to Ron and .10 to Jeff) and it's just blah. Sorta like my Chinook IPA and my Maris Otter SMaSH was. Not sure why. I can only say that it lacks lots of bitterness and aroma.
To those I sent a bottle to, my apologies for such a blah beer. Maybe you can buy a hoppy beer and blend them.

Works for me Ron.

Yes It will clear. If you leave it alone long enough and stop perving. I think mine cleared within a week. I poured a glass at 4 days, cloudy and next a week later, clear.
Just finished another glass of Belas. Crystal clear and still a damn good IPA.

Yeah, 'cuz that's gonna happen!
Besides, I'm drinking, not perving and that makes it different
I've got 5 gallons of this and no plans for anybody to come over anytime soon so I have plenty on hand to keep tasting. I think it will be interesting to see it changing daily.
