Lotahopalaus Rex
Here's the recipe that I came up with for my winter Double IPA. I found it on CraftedPours.com. It's listed there as a Heady Topper clone, but I don't think it really is. There is a lot of internet info out there on Heady clones, and this one isn't even really close to some that seem to have quoted resources on ingredients and process for Heady. Either way, I don't really care if it is or not, it just looks like a decent Double IPA recipe to me, so I'm gonna give it a go. I adjusted a few things to fit my equipment.

Re: Lotahopalaus Rex
Nice! But I wonder if you're man enough to handle it!
Is that the name they gave it? I see that name used by at least 2 other breweries and was curious.
I can smell the hoppage from here.

Re: Lotahopalaus Rex
It's not the name they gave it, I came up with that. I guess since it's been used, I'll have to change mine up a bit.

Re: Lotahopalaus Rex
I'm sorry I ruined it for you.....here's the google search I found.
https://www.google.com/search?q=Hopasau ... 8&oe=utf-8
As you know I have lots of stupid names and last year found out that just about every major dinosaur has a beer named after it.
You could just name it, Beer-lord's Juice and be done with it!

Re: Lotahopalaus Rex
Still haven't brewed this one yet. I had taken a Friday off about two weeks ago to get this done. But I got a call from the day care and had to pick up my little one. She was showing symptoms of Hand Foot and Mouth. So that day was gone. Then, the entire next week I had some sort of a cold that really put me back. Then, the week after that, the little one had the cold (or something), may have been bronchiolitis as it was going around the day care. She ran a fever for 3 days. Needless to say, I'm bummed this one hasn't been done yet. Now I've got to watch the weather for a good day, may need to take another day off from work to do it as our weekends seem to be packed anymore.

Re: Lotahopalaus Rex
I finally made it to the LHBS today to grab the ingredients for this. Now I just have to match up my time with the weather so I can get this into the fermenter.

Re: Lotahopalaus Rex
Finished this one off today. I came in a few points low on the OG and a bit more wort volume than I should have. I’m wondering if maybe the store shorted me a bit on the grain. I’ve never had as much wort left in the mash tun as I did today. But here’s a picture of why I named it Lotahopalous!!

Re: Lotahopalaus Rex
Beersmith may have calculated the IBUs at 132.9, but I think that's unlikely in real life. From what I've read, there's a limit somewhere around 120, and it's unlikely that people can detect anything above about 10.Beer-lord wrote:Just looked at the recipe again.....132 IBU's-my brotha from another motha!
