This is actually an important part of process that many of us have learned the hard way.

Do not look away from the pot if you've got the heat cranked up to get it boiling and its even 3/4th full. Lid or not.

If your timing is right, you can look away for 5 seconds and then "WOOOSH!" and then you have a fooking burn't sticky mess to clean up and yes it really sucks.

Hey Borgalonys, My brewing methods are so simple even I can do them. Steep my grains, add 1/3 oz. hops when water reaches 165*. Steep for 30 minutes. crank up stove to get to boil, adding another 1/3 of the hops.Let boil for around 10 minutes.Shut off stove, add remainder of hops and the Malt extract. Add the wort to the fermenter(already having 1 gal. Ice water in it),top off with ice water to fill point. When temp is right, pitch yeast. For bottling,I have a big plastic tub that I mix the sanitizer and water in. I count out 24 bottle caps and put them in the tub.I sanitize a 2 1/2 gal. Slimline and transfer the beer into it. I partially fill each bottle w/sanitizer,swirl it around and empty it out. Then I fill the bottle with beer from the Slimline and put 1 Domino Dot in,put the cap on and use a bench capper to cap it. I probably broken all of the acceptable, correct techniques, for brewing, but Hey,they work for me. Cheers :D

I'm one of those people who considers that stuff to be toxic waste unless you are brite tanking and filtering your beer to be sure it's gone when your done.

I sometimes do many of those things. I know that you can make great beer that way, nothing wrong with it.

If you want to see something totally nuts, search for "how to make 5 gallons of beer in a 12q pot" or something like that. I have taken that ice water top up to level 11 in the past. Even that makes good beer as long as you do it with some semblance of an idea of what your doing.
