Mr Beer community needs work
They should have left well enough alone.

I'm still trying to give them the benefit of doubt but more than one person should be flayed for that fiasco.

Agreed, I am willing to give them some time to sort it out, but not happy so far. So, welcome to the New "Better" Borg!

I would like to be more active over there in recruiting new members, but with multiple 60+ hr work weeks looming, I have to prioritze my time. And I would rather be here!

Re: Mr Beer community needs work
I haven't bought any of thier products in years. The only reason I have been hanging there is because guys I started learning with have still been there. Dave started a few weeks after I did, doc started around the same time, Screwey started some months later, etc. And I have enjoyed watching how each have grown in the hobbie. But I did feel a little guilty using MrBeer realestate when I was no longer a customer. For me this is better.

That's where I'm at. I'll keep checking back to see if it's anywhere close to the old forum.Beer-lord wrote:I'm still trying to give them the benefit of doubt but more than one person should be flayed for that fiasco.
It's kinda like leaving the house you've lived in for a long time! I'm sad about it. Not because I was so used to it, but because alot of fantastic people are no longer there helping what are probably alot of fantastic people.
Re: Mr Beer community needs work
I will try to go to the New Brewers page to try to help the newbees there. With all the experts over here I think they will miss out on all the help we had starting out.

Re: Mr Beer community needs work
Sounds like the whole thing is bittersweet for most of us. I also felt bad about talking BIAB, AG, and LME and DME from LHBS, etc. But as pointed out by others, we learned and grew, and we could(usually)make better beer for less money with a little more effort. Mr Beer is MOSTLY suited for a total novice, although again, as pointed out already, it can provide a more limited role for even an experienced brewer for convenience once in awhile. But even though we don't exclusively, or even less, use the Mr Beer products, we were always there to help the new brewers succeed with those products. It was a mutually beneficial relationship. They provided a forum that we may have used for more than just Mr Beer specific business, but in return, we provided a service to their customers, and therefore, to them. These new changes, or should I say subtractions, have removed most of the tools that we had to exercise our personal power. I don't know if they'll ever return, but for now, it's so limited that you can barely do anything. It probably doesn't matter to them that they were hosting a really special thing, even if it wasn't 100% directly in their own service and interest. But even if they're just thinking purely from a business point, they're missing the fact that having those experienced people around by providing an attractive place to be did in fact indirectly help foster their business. I'm just really sad about it all. Not to mention, like an idiot, I had too many names, addresses, emails and phone numbers stored in my PM's. I'm not sad about that. I'm pissed off.

Re: Mr Beer community needs work
Hey, am I going crazy? I just replied to Tabasco's post, and now it's not there. I hope it's just something in my browser, otherwise I'm imagining things.
Re: Mr Beer community needs work
I feel both sad and angry. Sad that a great forum that helped so many of us get started is gone, or at least worthless. I still continue to use Mr Beer extracts as a base for my own recipes, and would be happy to share that information with new brewer or anyone who is interested. However, with the forum being so limited I just don't feel like messing with it much. Louie has done such a great job here, I will likely just stay here for the most part.
I am mad because I have seen no response to any of our concerns in several days. That is no way to treat long term customers. Do the Cooper's execs just not care? It sure seems that way.

Re: Mr Beer community needs work
We are re-forming the community we had as you can see so I will hope that we will not take out our frustrations on any MB brewers because of what Corporate did. Our group is special because we care "above and beyond" what or how we brew but that we do brew and want to share and that we care.docpd wrote:I feel both sad and angry.
