Imperial Red Double IPA

Post by joechianti »

Okay, slap my gizzards. I'm almost never impressed by a new beer i try, but tonight I was in a bar and tried an Oskar Blues G'Knight Imperial Red Double IPA. I liked it so much that I ended up drinking 4 pints of it. Damn! I ran home and dug up a clone recipe for it even before I came here to talk about it. I'm in love. The hops are heavy but there's an incredible sweetness behind it that doesn't neutralize the bitterness, but instead stands up to it, face to face, and it is amazing. It's in your face and it's different. Did I mention I'm in love? :jumpy:

Sounds like a country song!

I'd try it! I like reds, but don't lean toward the hoppy side. But I'm open to trying new styles. And I've never had an Oskar Blues beer, but I hear they're good.

I love big, ballsy red ales!

If you are ever in Dallas and get a chance to try Peticolas Brewing Co's Velvet Hammer, do it.

If I'm not mistaken, this Imperial Red is 8.5% ABV. Love it.

Recipe or it didn't happen.

I'm not particularly crazy (IMO), and I don't rock-climb. It's just the name of a video game I used to like to play, back in the 80's.
