IIRC, redBeerd likes some of their stuff but they never did it for me. This doesn't impact me at all - yet. I'm sure this won't be the last brewery that tried to expand that finds itself unable to repay debt.

I can see where intense competition at the local level is making breweries take on debt to expand as a necessary evil, though.
Maybe we should start a Death Pool for breweries for 2018.

I guess that’s what happens when you spend money you don’t have.

They've changed their recipes with a new head brewer last year or so and some got better. They've been tweeting up a storm and pushing products but to no avail.
I like some of their beers but we never got all of them here. When they came into the market I met 2 guys from Green Flash who were really nice and interesting. They were just marketing guys but they were gung-ho!

I guess it's a case of, what have you done for me lately and, where's my check!

It's not completely gone, though (from the article):

"While the Green Flash and Alpine brands will continue, they will do so under new ownership — and GFBC, Inc. and Alpine Beer Company, Inc. will be wound down and dissolved. I sincerely thank you for your support over the years."

I'm betting it's gone. Not sure how much money they really owe but when this kind of stuff gets out, it's probably the kiss of death. I wish them well but I'm still wondering how they were able to get the East Coast brewery going if things were going south.

They got the East Coast brewery going because they borrowed the money to build it and get it up and running. Then the profits weren't there for them to make the payments on the loans. Then the bank forecloses. No different than buying a $200,000 house when you can only afford a $100,000 house. The bank offers you interest only payments for a period of time, then when that period is done and you now owe interest and principal...you're F'd!!

I don't know if someone will continue the brand. I loved the WCIPA, it may have been my first IPA. But it was also way too expensive.

Maybe New Realm will buy it and have a West Coast location closer to Stone and Mitch can compete against his old company.

I actually never had a Green Flash. I only remember seeing one on a shelf once, looking at the price, and saying "nope".

I loved their original Palette Wrecker but they stopped it, then made it again last year and it was even better. Also sometimes enjoyed their Green Bullet. But we stopped getting any GF beer here a month ago so, I guess I'm over it.

However, I'm really anticipating Where's Waldo from Lagunitas later this month. It was one of the better beers I had all last year, along with some regional stuff like Parish, and of course, Born Yesterday. Plus, the price is ridiculously awesome for a 6 pack relative to the snobby stuff I live on here.

I did some googling and it looks like the article in the original post was a little misleading.

They were foreclosed, but in the foreclosure, a private company bought them and brought in nw management.
