Reserving beer online - interesting idea

Post by Kealia »

A local brewery that puts out a fair number of beers (new ones weekly or bi-weekly) has started splitting batches that are canned and selling 1/2 at the brewery (first-come, first-served) and putting 1/2 online for 'reservation'. My understanding is that if you reserve them, you get 48 hours to pick them up and pay for them or they get released to sell in the brewery.

Their thinking is that this allows non-locals (anyone that can't be there on release day) a fair shot at getting some of their beer. They are a smaller brewery and they are trying to make their stuff more widely available. It's an interesting idea. I suppose they could simply sell a fixed number per day (like Russian River does for Pliny the Younger each year).

I don't care one way or the other myself. If I want some they are close enough for me to go get some - depending on the release day & time. Just curious, how would you feel if this was picked up in your area? Cool idea? Or do you not like it?

I'm a bit conflicted about it. I don't wait in lines, or seek limited releases. No matter how good a beer may be, I don't like the hoopla. So I suppose that beer reservations are an improvement over camping out. But I'm not doing either.

I kind of like the idea. Not everyone wants to Stand in line, so this would give them a chance to get it. And maybe they can’t take time off work or they may even be out of town on the release date, so they have a chance to get it. I like it!!

Interesting idea, out of towners can get a local to reserve a sixer and have it shipped creating a wider distribution without distributing!

Self distribution is a big topic in our area and the legislature is getting involved. Big distributors are not happy with the idea.

I could never take reservations on my Tabascale by Tabrewsco. It's too famous.

Hey stranger, good to "see" you.

I do like the idea of being able to get limited stuff from out of the area. For example, if I brewery in GA had a limited release of something that I wanted, I could potentially reserve some then ask Inky to pick it up versus having to ask him to stand in a line and maybe have them sell out before he got to buy any.

That being said, I guess I could let you know what brewery it is here so y'all could request/reserve some if you see something you like....just be warned that I'll charge a handling fee of 1 can from each order
