Northern Brewer

Post by Beer-lord »

Anyone else get an email from NB (well, it was really surveymonkey.com) asking if you're still a brewer and why you haven't purchased from them in awhile? One of the options to tick off was "company ownership" which is what I did but I did buy from them a few months back when they had a good sale. Probably will again just not often at all.
MoreBeer is my go to now. But, maybe they've read how some won't buy from them due to the ABInbev ownership.

By the way, they've revamped their website recently too.

Yep, I just got that email before lunch. I checked the "other" box because I haven't brewed much or bought from them lately due to the summer heat. I need to put another order into them for that Bastard Stepson Hard Root beer recipe. I'll have to check out their new website revision.

Nope. Clearly they don't care about my business :p

I would check that same box for company ownership. For me, there are too many options to buy from without giving money to the In-Bev conglomerate that is making it harder and harder on craft brewers/breweries. It's my little way of saying F-U to the man! To each their own, though.

I only look at their emails when there is a sale on something I need. So if I got it, I deleted it.

On second look, I did receive it. My answer was "Shop local".
When I need something that I can't find locally, or am not visiting my LHBS (30 minutes away), I check Ebay, Amazon, or Homebrewninja.

Never mind, there it is.

I have bought from them before, but their prices are high. I bought my cooler mashtun setup from them only because they had one in dark grey and I liked it over some Home Depot orange or yellow one. Some of therir stuff is gimmicky and in the same breath I also kinda like that. But for example $150 for a new ball lock keg is almost double what you can get them for elsewhere. $75 for a Perlick Beer faucet...they sell for $40 on other sites. No thank you. I'm not one that searches for the cheapest price, but I am also not going to overpay for the same product. I will not use them, just like I haven't in years.

They send emails offering 20% everything sitewide (with restrictions) quite a bit; I usually wait for those.

They also do a lot of sales on kits (like. $20 kits for low-to-moderate ABV / IBU recipes) that are pretty good deals, but I mostly brew 3 - 4 gallon batches and prefer to build my recipes from scratch. But at $20, just getting the ingredients for that price can sometimes be a good deal.

NB used to be my #1 go-to online brewing supply store. I'm not thrilled with the ownership situation, and it does deter me a little. But, not enough to write them off completely.
