Getting Back In The Mix...

Post by MadBrewer »

It has been a slow brewing year. I have brewed a couple batches, but nothing like my usual. Brewing has slowed a lot in the last couple years compared to years before. I started brewing in 2009 so there has been several dry spells along the way. I never lose the passion for brewing but sometimes the itch comes and goes. I also haven't been drinking as much so with that comes less brewing. But I did brew a batch for a party I had last weekend and we finished off that and 2 other kegs of beer so now I can do some cleaning and get some new beers brewed up.

I took some time today to get my kegs cleaned up, disconnected my tap lines for cleaning and have my faucets soaking now. I am also leaving the beer fridge unplugged overnight to defrost and give it a good cleaning tomorrow. And I am brewing up two separate batches in the morning so I will be very glad to have things up an running again in a few weeks.

Happy Brewing all, just wanted to do some catching up. :clink:

Nice! I hadn't brewed since March, until last week when I brewed two batches to catch up.

Thanks guys, got it all done and cleaned up by 2pm which was pretty good figuring I didn't start heating strike water until about 6:15 this morning as soon as I woke up. Did my Fat Tire clone and a "Two Heart-ish" IPA with 2 row, some Vienna and a touch of C-40. Columbus for bittering and did a hopstand with Centennial. Both are sitting in the fermentation chest. I have the boil kettle soaking and I just might give the beer fridge a good cleaning tomorrow instead. All the lines, taps and faucets were cleaned though. That's about enough for one day.

Last Thursday I brewed (summer wheat) for the first time since December. Then I brewed again (Citra-Nilla IPA) on Friday. It felt good to finally get back to it. Image

It's nice to be back. Nothing beats having a cold home brew on a summer day. Summer makes the beer taste better and the beer makes summer feel even better. I have missed having some good beer on tap.

That's one hell of a way to get back into things. But, since it is a labor of love I'm betting you enjoyed (most of) it.

I did, I had a great weekend to do it and got a lot done. I dry hopped the IPA and will be pulling those hops tomorrow I think.

Yesterday I put these two beers on tap with clean lines and faucets. Exactly 2 weeks from the day they were brewed. They are cold, carbonated and I'll be giving them a go later in the week. They might need a little more time to clear but that's to be expected. I'm sick at the moment, can't really taste anything so I have to wait it out but now I'm back on track and already thinking of what to brew next. I might have a chance next weekend to squeeze something in.

Sorry you're sick, (me too) get better soon. Glad your beers are on, that's great. You can reward yourself when you feel better. I might keg a beer today, I brewed two batches a couple of weeks ago.

Often I am not too impressed with my hoppy beers but I have to say these last two batches I brewed together have really surprised me. They are really good, maybe to the best hoppy beers I ever made. I am a malt lover, I love my hops too but I never really seem to pull off a good hoppy beer, but these can.e out great. I have really tried to improve some of my process and it seems to be paying off. I also keg hopped these beers paired with a floating pic up tube the beer is much clear and full of fresh hop character. These will not last long.

I'm not trying to toot my own horn just happy that I can still surprise myself and fall in love again with this hobby over and over. :clink:
