Had Munich LME and some Amber DME, from sale in the spring before I started diong AG, did a 30 minute 5 gallon Marzen Ale with an ounce of Liberty @ 30, 1/2 each Tettnanger and Hallertau @25 and 20. Made for a quick brew day!

Nothing to bottle, which is good, because I was too tired when I got home from work today to do much of anything.

Tomorrow I'm brewing a 2.5 gallon batch of Scramblin' Amber Ale, which is a simple extract recipe I concocted this past spring when work was really busy. Just 3# of Amber DME, and a small amount of specialty grain for color, aroma, and body. Very easy to put together in a hurry, or when you're tired but still want to brew. And pretty tasty, as I recall.

The weather here is perfect for brewing, it's 53 degrees this morning, but I'm still waiting for a few last minute parts to arrive. In the meantime I'm just un-bottling some craft beers and daydreaming about my next brew day.

Vince, I'm sorry you're not able to brew yet. I'm in the middle of a boil now, and the weather is perfect for it. Finally getting some cooler days here in the Metro NYC area.

Finished my brewing around 10:00. Got started a little earlier than usual, and it was a simple extract recipe. Not bad. Hit my OG right on the nose, too. Looking forward to this batch of amber ale!

Mashing in on my Nelson Sauvin Pale Ale VI. This time the grain bill was tweaked a bit, I'm mashing a bit higher and I'm doubling the hops.
I still want the Pale Ale outcome, but I want more hops than the last batch gave me.

Don't feel bad, Ibasterd. I once broke two hydrometers back-to-back. I hadn't even had a chance to use the second one!

Eventually you learn how careful you have to be. And you'll also know to always have a spare.

Thank goodness the one I broke was still in the tube. Made clean up a whole lot eaiser. Who would have thought a ROUND tube would ROLL off a table. :huh:

Now on to what I've brewed and bottled.
Yesterday I kegged 10 gallons of this ESB

Today I kegged 10 gallons of my Rum Barrel Vanilla Stout. Kinda followed this recipe, jury is still out on this until it gets carbed. Trying a lot of new things with this one, so we'll see.
Had trouble racking the holding water out of the barrel a few weeks ago, so looked for other ways to do it. Found a few ideas where people used Co2 to push beer, so I made this contraption. Drilled a extra hole in the stopper for the Co2 line, worked great.

Added 2 Tbsp. of Vanilla extract to one of the kegs. Time will tell.

I didn't brew anything today but it would have been a nice day to brew.
I''m going to bottle my pumpkin Ale Tuesday morning.

The Oktoberfest is doing good at 39 degs. in the secondary and I'll wait a little longer before I bottle it.

Tonight I have had my first sample of the spontaneously fermented honey mentioned here .

There were two bottles filled to below the neck, just because that's all there was. The carb level is pretty high. There was a really big hiss when I opened it, but no foaming over.

Because of the carb level it has a Champagne like body. The flavor is slight honey with some sourness. Like you went a bit overboard adding lemon to your honey/lemon tea. So a Champagne like slight honey/sour thing.

After it sits a while, after the initial CO2 overload, the aroma is slight honey. As it warms a bit the flavor has both sweet and sour notes.

I have a 16oz container of 365 Organic Mountain Forest Raw Honey from Whole Foods to see what sort of yeast I can get from it.

No real time to brew, so I took one of the cans of MrB. seasonal nut browns I got for $12.50 between sale + coupons, and brewed it as a 2.5 gallon batch with a hopstand of some Pacific Gem hops I've had sitting around. They are like a strong and oily fuggles/cluster blend. Pitched the Notty that came with it. Did something similar with regular fuggles before and it was good, so I think this should also make a good ESB like thing as well, although a bit stronger in hop flavor.

Boiling the pseudo decoction for Mr. Rufus Tabby hefe. Can't thank Mashani enough for teaching this technique to make due when you've only got an infusion mash tun. Aiming for 1.053 OG when all is said and done.
