I think I mentioned it in a comment to this post but on FB. I'm calling it quits on growing hops here. The heat and humidity, coupled with monsoon rain storms killed my 2 plants.

I have to take another look at mine today and I might have some to harvest. I have been putting off the urge to pull them early which I know I have done in the past. I'm starting to smell the difference when they are ready. They are much less grassy and plant like in aroma when ready besides the drier, papery feel. They also seem to open up slightly. I think I better get to them before they go too long.

Please follow this link (http://www.theonion.com/article/full-su ... ingl-51227 ) to an article that exactly mirrors my hop growing experience in Florida. I recently plucked my single, underdeveloped hop from the withered bine of my cascade plant, and floated it in the head of one of my beers as a garnish. It had zero aroma and was the size of an acorn. I believe that is the end for my hop growing experiment.

Are there any commercial Hop growers in Fl. or the area you guys are at? 15 miles from me on the Lake Erie plain, they grow grapes and a lot of them. We can grow grapes where I'm at too just down the road but could never do it on a commercial scale, just not the right conditions. Why I'm asking this, just wondering if hops wont grow good that far south.

Don't know about commercial hop growing in Florida. I'd doubt it. Definitely too hot and humid. Too hot and humid for me too!
