Weavels and mold and clumps, Oh My!

If it happens once, it's an oversight. Twice, it's a coincidence. Three times is a pattern of behavior or a problem.

Personally, I would take a break from them for a few months, then maybe do a small test purchase after the new year to see if they "got the bugs worked out". Otherwise, just buy where you feel comfortable. No need to add any potential stress to what should be a relaxing brew day...

Wow, they are going to "Mr. Beer" themselves if they keep that up. Especially once the word get out. Dont worry about "bad mouthing" since they did that to themselves are you are simply helping out fellow brewers to avoid potentially bad brew. I've had to abandon businesses that went bad before when it is obvious they arent reacting to the problems. Seems like they may have done some cost cutting by switching to a new supplier.

My LHBS is Adventures In Homebrewing and have nothing but good things to say (except the price of Star San I found out). Some things like hops are house branded but if you look in the cooler it is because they buy mostly Hop Union in bulk and then package in oz packets. When they have made mistakes they have been quick to own up to it and make it right. Everyone makes mistakes, but it sounds like it is more than that at your shop right now if it happend that much across completely unrelated products. You should sneak in back and see if the ingredients have "Made Iin China" stamped across the packaging.

I'll second AIH. If there is an issue they are quick to fix it. I had my keg system a about a week when they called me to see how things were going. Told them that one of the regulators was acting weird. The pressure kept changing. I had a new 2 valve regulator the next day. Same thing with a tap faucet.

Wow. I'm not happy to see this. You've had some bad experiences there lately. They have been pretty good in the past, but this kind of stuff is not pretty at all. I need to go check on all the grains I got from there that I have stored at room temp. I will go nuts if I find bugs all over them. I did notice that they used to have the barrels of LME in the store and pour your order directly from them. Now they fill bottles in advance and stack them on shelves in the store at room temp. I wondered if this was better or worse than the previous method. Sounds like it might be worse. I know one thing, I'm gonna be on my toes when I shop there from now on. Similar thing happened at my favorite grocery store. They started getting busier and bigger and I started finding more and more expired and short date stuff there. They're still my favorite store, but I have to be very careful about reading the dates on everything I buy there now.

Joe you know how bummed out I am about this. I wonder if losing the previous owner has had an effect. I know they have also been running out of stuff a lot as well.

I'd rather spend money on brewing ingredients than shipping costs but I have to be able to trust the ingredients are fresh. As big as they are I can't believe something like Vienna gets old enough to hatch weevils, it amazes me.

You know, I thought they changed owners too, because the couple who own the micro brewery we went to for a sample tour said they owned AHBS before they opened the brewery. So I just assumed they sold the store to run the brewery. But the next time I went back for more samples, I mentioned something to the effect of a new owner at the store and they told me that in fact they did not sell the store but are running both businesses now. Of course, that could be spreading one's self too thin. Maybe and maybe not. Just a thought.

Wow that is a surprise. If he is still an owner and running a miro you would that better quality control issues would be in place. He must not have a management role at the store.

Now ya know BB the you may not use supplies from there for your punishment brew. You must obtain those ingredients from the country of origin!!

I could do that but then I'd have to charge $199.95 per bottle.

Where did ya get the idea you got to charge?? You are giving a 5 gallon batch for each borg memember

Well if that's the case then on my budget you get Weevils, Mold and clumpy hops.

Oh! and I'm gonna need a bigger pot.

Okay so each batch is a different recipe and all ingredients from the country of origin. So by the time all the stuff gets shipped and all that beer gets brewed, in an 8 quart pot, you guys still won't get any beer BECAUSE I'LL HAVE DIED OF OLD AGE.

Nope because the last batch is yours. After gaining all that experince it should be the best one Grasshopper
