Ok so i'm not as crazy as I thought, The BCS recipe called for 8.4 lbs of LME and a half pound of steeped grains and I am doing 9.15 lbs and a full pound of steeped grains. I know it doesn't translate fully like that but it seemed like only a bit more malt than the BCS version with a slightly higher ibu too. With some left in the jug it will end up being closer to 9 lbs instead of 9.15

Based on price and hop availability I am thinking about switching this to a smash with Centennial, I would love to do Amarillo but stock is low and orders are limited to 8 oz and I would need at least 9-10, probably more. Maybe cut the Malt down too so I don't need as much hops too. Will do some tinkering and update later

Not much help here as I've not hop bursted yet, but do have a few (not my recipes) solid Pale Ales in rotation. Nierra Sevada and Centennial Blonde are two good beers with less hops needed. The Nierra Sevada is pretty spot on to the beer it's cloned after and an extract recipe is on page 3 and I'm sure there are more in the thread.

With that said I sure that a hop burst Centennial SMaSH would be great. I just don't know how much one should use. My house IPA is Centennial start (FWH) to finish (dry hop).

FWIW, Centennial tastes very grapefruity to me - in a good way. Why would you need so much Amarillo? Your recipe only has 2.5 oz of it. BTW, check labelpeelers.com - they had pounds of it last time I looked.

I was trying to order everything from the same place and keep the cost under 70 bucks for the batch, switched to amarillo and centennial for the hops brings it to almost 40 ibus and changed the yeast to US-05 due to sub-zero temps here and not wanting to order liquid yeast

Ended up having to put bottling day on hold for an extra week, dry hopping lasted for 6 days at fermenting temps then cold crashed for 9 days at about 46° (basement gets cold) came in at 1.015 from 1.061, just over 6% abv. So much trub, kept clogging my auto siphon, there was a good two or three inches of hop bits and trub, lost almost a gallon of beer to that :( ended up with 47 bottles from a 5.5 gallon batch.

Tastes like an ipa but has the bitterness of a pale ale, I would almost call this an Imperial Pale Ale based on the amount of flavor, pretty excited for this to condition out

Tried this one this weekend, Much more bitter than I care for, Also I now know I do not care for Centennial hops as it tastes like straight grapefruit, Will be redoing this recipe with a different hop bill hopefully the ones I want will be in stock next time. Might cut the 20 min boil since it takes about 10-15 minutes for me to chill, That I think is what made this more bitter than I liked

We brew and learn. But let it set longer, bitterness fades in time.

I did a orange pils with Centential and it was very bitter at first, about 6 month of aging really cut it down a lot.
