One thing about the refractometer is in this case you don't really care about what the actual gravity is, just whether it is the same gravity as the last reading. You can get the correct gravity at bottle time by the computation method, but I think you do need the OG to do that. That's one way the refractometer is great for determining when fermentation is finished, tiny samples, and you only care about whether it is the same brix reading from day to day.

At 1.030 I doubt you are done yet unless the yeast died or you have a stuck fermentation.
