This weekend I brewed my black IPA recipe for the third time, one of my favorite styles for sure. I use Carafa II to darken it without turning it into a porter, and I add a very small amount (about 2%) of chocolate malt for a slight hint of flavor.
Haven't tried midnight wheat, but I'm intrigued....
Also, my humble opinion is Clown Shoes makes a delicious black IPA, but the Widmer Brothers pitch black is less than remarkable. If you haven't tried it yet, get hour hands on Stone's Sublimely Self Righteous. While I find most of Stone's brews over-hyped, their black IPA is quite good.
