This Thread needs to be renamed "the SMEIBBs Corner".

I knew there were a bunch of us out there.

Though I am a n00b (uhh...), I'll weigh in that I use the same electric turkey fryer setup that Russki (I think) uses. IIn order to do five gallon, I generally have to supplement with DME/LME on the back-side, but it works great for my normal 3 gallon AG batches. I have alternated between the higher volumes and the sparge as others have discussed in my BIAB as well. My efficiency was pretty darn good until the last 3 batches, where it started to blow chunks. I think it's due to the mill at the LHBS, but not totally certain, but I have dropped from 70-80% down to 50-60% on those last three. But, of course, I haven't brewed since May, so it will be interesting to see what happens on my upcoming batch.

Anything under OG 1.060 I'm a BIABer, OG of 1.070 and above I'm a SMEIBBer. That's how the Naked Cat rolls.
Smallest beer has been 1.040, largest 1.093.

This is SOOO totally cool.
I can't wait till Lionsfan and Manofwarefan find it I think they are SMEIBBs too.
Together we will overcome dialing our methods into brew software everywhere.
I feel so empowered.

It's nice to know that a lot of us do this in some manner. I guess that's why we all post here instead of other forums LOL.

One thing about brewing this way, I'm trying to find a more efficient way of squeezing the grain bag without scorching my hands. Currently I use ice cubes and after every squeeze, I rub my hands with the ice cubes to cool them down, squeeze again, rub with ice, etc. until I finish and prepare for the boil.

I put the bag in a colander and press on it with a bowl, protecting my hands.

That sounds like a great idea. I hope I can find one wider than my pot.

Phil check with restaurant supply stores. I picked up a HUGE colander for 25$.
Also get a set of
these next time you place an order or from your LHBS and squeeze away.

Ok now I've used nitrile gloves before, but nothing that thick like dishwashing/hazmat gloves. Guess I'll have to check if the HBS has some. Good call on the restaurant supply stores.. There's one up near where the inlaws live, which is also the same area where the HBS is so I can go to both places on the same day.

The thick gloves work great. I squeeze the heck out of my sack and laugh maniacally.
Oh, and I use the gloves while brewing too.

What you do on your own time is none of our business! Keep it in the shower!

I find that I need to use one that fits inside the pot. Mine fits well in an 8qt pot, but the little that sticks up lets some wort run down the sides. So I put it completely inside the 12qt and press.

But he diffuses bottle bombs bare handed.
