Yes that is a 4lb. bag of assorted colored bottle caps. We don't use labels so I rotate the color of the caps through several different style bottles to identify my beers.
For example I have several cases each of Sierra Nevada bottles and several cases of the long neck style that you can buy empty from the LHBS.
Bottles have a number on the base that identifies the style, in this the SN bottles are N23 and the others are N35.
In my brew log I can that an N23BLK is an Amarillo Blonde or a N35Red is my Kolsch. When they go in the fridge for drinking I keep an erasable ink board on the door and that is my beer menu.

Cool idea.... If I knew how to post a pic, I could show you what I did..... until then....
I use a dry erase maker and write down on side of fridge what I have in bottles. Using a computor magnet, I take an old cap that identifies the bottle and put it next to the name. That way, it's like Garanimals (remember those?) match cap to beer.
For my kegs, I just write that on fridge as well..

Either that's your beer frig or you don't have a SWMBO - no way she'd let you write on the frig...
In our closet I have a clipboard hanging with a piece of dry erase material on it that lists the brew, number in the beer frig downstairs, how aged (i.e. 16 weeks, 20 weeks) and roughly how much (so you don't gulp down the end of the batch without knowing it.
I also have a 2 sentence write-up on each brew on a list on the bulletin board so newbies can read it and pick what they might want.
I write the name of the brew, i.e. OSII for Oatmeal Stout II on the cap for easy locating (although they are sorted in alphabetic order and I have 6 of each in the frig), and each beer has a black and white laser printed label glued on with a glue stick.

I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...

LOL that was the beer fridge... she still questioned why I wrote on it.... Just like she was pissed when I had my school paint flames on the brand new snowblower, said I'd never be able to sell it. Why would I sell it and yes, it's way cool, so someone would want it... I guess she doesn't get it...guys I mean...
Re: As the only female on the Borg I have to say....
Flames are good, nothing wrong with flames. I put flames on my fishing kayak and named her burnin' water.
I'd write on the fridge but I chose the black one for the beer and the white one for the food because of the shelving flexibility. I can cold crash two lbks, chill a couple of cases of bottles and keep chilled top off water in the bottom. The food? well I just throw that in the other one any ole way.
And I AM SWMBO.
