I'd love to be able to go electric but that's not possible without a great deal of money and effort in my home so this is the next best thing.
I told ya, yer gonna love it! It is quiet. I used to set the flame based on the noise on my old one. I can't do that on this one. The only difficult thing is being able to throttle it back far enough as my beer comes to a boil. Because I don't have the sound to go by anymore so it is sort of a guessing game. I do have to throttle it back quite a bit to maintain a boil as opposed to bringing it to a boil, which it does rather quickly.

That's the other side of fun with a new toy, figuring it all out. That'll take a few brews I'm sure.
It seems like once you have the damper set, you really shouldn't fool with it much (depending on windy conditions and other weather) and all the turning down should be at the regulator. Is that how you throttle down or do you just turn the propane tank lower too?

That is correct. The damper stays in place and you control at the regulator. And you are going to be absolutely amazed at how precise the regulator is.

Nice! Thanks. I'll do a test boil with water sometime soon to tweak things.

Roger, does this look tweaked? It did seem to take about 10 minutes longer than my old burner.
Sorry about the noise, I had a fan going as well as my A/C compressor going off.

Looks pretty cool. Or should I say hot!! Anyway, it took about 10 minutes longer? I would have thought it would have done better.

I'm pretty sure it's just sipping the propane but I will say this, my old burner, made for crawfish and crab boiling, was made to kick ass and take no prisoners. There isn't a worry about scorching boil pots or leaving black marks on it. I think it Blichmann is 72,000 BTU's and my 'open flame' burner is over 90,000 so I likely am not giving it a fair comparison, nor am I in any way, unhappy with it. The lack of noise alone is a joy.

Well, it never really looked like it gave me a huge, roiling boil but it did as I was almost 1/2 a gallon lower in the fermenter. No worries.
I did spill some wort on the legs and its near impossible to get off but that's going to happen from time to time. I'm pleased with it and it's high enough to go right into the fermenter which is a big help for an old man.

it looks like it could use a tad more air. You should get just blue flame but the flames should not be off the burner. The orange in there made it look a little lean on oxygen. When I open my vent too much mine starts to roar.

After the mash was done I played around with it a bit more and the only way I could get a real good boil was to have a few orange flames but I think the fact that the pot doesn't sit as close to the flame as my old one might make it easier for problems on a windy day. However, there is no doubt that you get much more even heating with this burner.
