2oz of chocolate and you might start to taste it and you don't want to be making a pale porter I assume. When I said smidgen I really meant smidgen!
Somebody here would say that would be icky.
Somebody
(it probably still would taste good, but still perhaps not as intended)
I just popped in to see if you guys were talking about reds or ambers. I prefer an American Amber to an Irish Red so I'll just move along....

For more red, try adding 4 to 6 oz of 80L crystal next time. Even more crystal then that in a 2.5 gallon batch is fine. A good bit of crystal is totally appropriate in a red.

Ok. That's good to know. I will keep that in mind for the next one.
But I will see, I am due to bottle this one on Thursday. The temps are dipping a bit around here so I will cold crash for a few day after another taste test to see if it is ready.

Ya See there we don't call him Mashan-encyclopedia for nothin'.
Also a good way to get a nice red color is hibiscus. Makes a fantastic Pink Saison.

Seriously though I steeped 6-8 oz of cara-red in a LBK-sized batch and got a nice amberish red.

How about some juniper berries! I picked some today along with some more crystal.

In the quantities you can use juniper berries and still end up with drinkable beer, they don't really affect the color much.
But a juniper red sounds tasty to me. I'd digging juniper in beer.

Well, I bottled this one last night. Its not red, more of an orange. But tasted good. Called it "not red pale ale"...
