Among my barware collection are such diverse elements as the Stella chalice, an Ommegang goblet, a Cooperstown pilsner glass, dimpled English ale mugs, the aforementioned Perfect Pint and kölch glasses, and numerous shaker pints. Some serve more of a purpose as decorations and souvenirs, but some are used in some kind of rotation. My Perfect Pint is pretty much the go-to glass, but I'll use the kölsch when I've got a kölsh, the dimpled mugs for brown ales and stouts, and some of the shakers for guests.

I will allow the dimpled mugs in the dishwasher, because you could probably fire them from a cannon and they'd be fine. All the others, I'm worried about either breakage or the logos becoming compromised.

The only ones that I hand wash & dry would be the ones with a logo that I wouldn't want to wear off.

You can sit down and rest a little if you need to, JJ.

Are we supposed to be washing our glasses?

The CPO even washes his coffee cup when they pull back into home port. So, yes at least occasionally.

I don't own a dishwasher so it's always been by-hand here.

I started out doing it by hand, then SWMBO grabbed a couple and ran them through the dishwasher when I wasn't looking. :o

I couldn't tell a difference, so they've all gone in there since (except for a couple delicate ones that don't get used too often). The only thing that concerns me is the potential for the logos on some of the glasses to "wash off" over time. I haven't noticed anything yet, but when/if I do it will be back to hand washing those...

I've tried both ways also, and just don't see a big difference in head retention or lacing.

I've even gone as far as washing with salt and hot water rather than soap with no noticeable difference.

As far as the vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher, that's what we use for rinse aid, instead of Jet Dry.
We put it in the dispenser and it works just as well, for a small fraction of the price!
