I have heard that description before as well. Some people get it from Citra, some don't. Inkleg gets onion from Citra but he also likes dark beers so take that into account when deciding how much weight to give his opinion

I can probably make something not really citrusy at all that still turns out smelling like cat pee to some people using cluster or streisselspalt in large quantities.

FWIW, I have cats, I deal with the litter boxes, and I do not perceive these things as "cat pee". But my x-swmbo did. Simcoe and Citra was also cat-pee to her.

It seems to be a pretty individual kind of thing. Maybe there's also a genetic piece to it, like the way some people find cilantro soapy tasting. Maybe if you've got the genetic marker for it and you've got cats, you'll smell it, but if you don't have the genetic marker or if you've got the genetic marker but don't have cats, it'll smell fine. I wonder if black currants would smell like cat urine to me.

Evily and RickBeer, next time there is a parade in your town just go there and ask to smell a police horse; however I would not suggest you explain that you make your own beer or that you have one before you leave the house.

Went for the first taste today at the taproom. So very good... Nice to get to taste the final product.

Batch two blending session today. I went a lot less currant and a lot more cherry this batch... I think my currant addition was 30% last time. Took three attempts to get it exactly like I wanted. My first blend was too little fruit and sour, but the oak and brett was great. So I upped the cherry in the second attempt, which bumped the fruit, but it was still lacking on the nose and with the sweet and sour. Third go around bumped the currants from 12% to 16%, and that pretty much nailed it for me.

I ended up:
10% base beer
30% cherry love barrel #1
28% cherry love barrel #2
9% foeder #1
7% foeder #2
7% currant barrel #1
9% currant barrel #2



They will take everyone's final blends, put them in a weighted average, and end up with the near final blend. Then the brewmaster will make tweaks to his liking to get the final blend.
