My take on this post..............disclamer: I'm not a cat person.............but my wife is and I lost track of how many we have now, I did know at one time but quit counting. My answer is no you can never train a cat.......

Our cat is trained. She lives in the upstairs bathroom and as soon as I sit on the toilet, she pops out of the closet to get attention. Hey, just being open and transparent here.

My cat has limited training. She understands the word "no". She knows not to claw the leather furniture, or venture into the bedroom. About once a month I have to retrain her not to wake me in the middle of the night.

Duncan has been trained to be black and fuzzy and sleep a lot. He's really good at all three!
