The problem with that was he was almost as mean when not drunk. There was some happy place in the 6-12 beers range where he didn't act like an ass. He just couldn't stay there all the time. He did construction. Somehow things he built actually managed to be built correctly most of the time.

That's just sad AND wrong!
I can't brag about myself much but I also can't deny facts. One fact is that I am extremely disciplined. It's not easy and possibly OCD but it's a trait I got from my dad.
Not 100% because I still buy hops when I don't really need them.
