Sad and happy news to report. The sad, the Pliny is no more. The happy, everyone at my first ever Home Brew club meeting enjoyed it.

That's one hell of a way to introduce yourself to your first home brew club meeting. Now they will only expect greatness from you!!

Notes:
------
the 5 day DH are in the secondary, the 3 day DH are in the keg.
Also a FO hop addition (0min) then a 30min hop stand addition under 170 degrees.

Going to use a secondary on this one, last time I did this I didn't use a secondary and I didn't get the hop aroma like I did this first time I did it.

Awesome...I love looking at recipes that have so many hops in them. And if this is your third time, the first two must have been great!!

I didnt' follow this thread and it's 16 pages, but have you ever looked at the recipe in Brewing Classic Styles, it's said to be Vinnie's Recipe for Pliney scaled down to the homebrew level.

I've brewed that recipe from the book once, I don't know how it compares, I've never had the actual beer but it was damn good.

Brewed up on Saturday, and changed it up a bit. Decided to drop the 45min pellet hop addition and use a third syringe of hop shots. I used the .25oz of columbus with the other flame out hops. Here's some pic's of the brew day.

Looks awesome. Those hop shots are really dark in color, do you think they will have an effect on the final color of the beer?

Nice!
Does anyone really know what hops are used in hopshots? is it just a bunch of whatever they have at that time? My LHBS doesn't have these and I'm not sure they are interested in them but I am curious (and a fit reluctant due to my ignorance) to use them.

I don't believe so, I've used them before in this recipe and it didn't seem to me to darken it. When you add them, they kind of melt and mix with the wort and turn from dark brown to a dark green and by the time I was chilling the wort you couldn't see any residual color from them. I did learn one thing about using them, let the syringes warm up a bit before adding, if too cold when adding they bead up and stick to the sides of the pot.

Those hop shots are kinda cool looking. I wonder how long before people (*cough* Paul *cough*) start just injecting themselves directly with those.

Good luck on the final product!

That really hurts (not your comment, the hopshot in my tongue). I bet eggs would taste fantastic with some hopjuice, I mean orange juice.
Maybe my next crawfish boil I can add some as well. And those who fry turkeys might try injecting them with hopshots.

Hey, I'm just gettin' started.
