Re: keg priming
I'll be kegging for the first time next week. Will probably do the set and forget method. Seems the easiest for a first timer like me.
Fermenting: Bucket 1 - Fresh Squeezed IPA; Bucket 2 - Empty
Kegged: Keg 1 - Irish Red; Keg 2 - Cream Ale; Keg 3 - Amber Ale; Keg 4 - APA; Keg 5 - Empty; Keg 6 - Empty; Keg 7 - Empty
The reason why the above list is so small Home Theater Build

Re: keg priming
This will at the very least, give you an idea of what you are working with. Then you can tweak it the next time.
I've also had good luck with 30 psi for 24 hours, 20 psi for 48 hours then down to 10 and it's usually ready in 5 days. Lately, I set on 10 and leave it alone.

Re: keg priming
Paul, I've been thinking about trying the 'rushed' method you mentioned for my latest. It's already conditioned so I want to get my hands on it as soon as I can. I'm not interested in the shake and roll method, though - just seems to easy to overcarb and I'm not in THAT much of a rush.
Re: keg priming
I have done this with my last two IPA's when I am 2 or 3 points from FG. I keg it leave it sit for 2 weeks. Put the corny in the frig let it sit for a couple of days, relive the pressure, hook it up at serving pressure (8 - 10 PSI on my rig) and enjoy

Re: keg priming
So you are natural carbing. You are just using the last bit of sugar from fermentation instead of adding some.
Re: keg priming
The last two IPA's yes. I do not know if I will continue, too much sediment left in the keg. My pils and Belgiums I have not tried this. Most likely won't. I will continue to let those fall clear then keg.

Re: keg priming
Kegged for the first time. Used corny. 40F @ 12 psi for 1 week, then dispensed @ 12 psi. Turned out pretty darn good. 1st try on my new kegerator.

Re: keg priming
The time I tried putting 30lbs on and shaking my keg I ended up with it over carbonated. Only took a few hours though. I took it off the CO2 and vented it, then the next day vented it again, then put it back on the CO2 at 12 lbs and it was perfect. But the quick carbing method makes it very difficult to get the degree of carbonation you want.
Re: keg priming
I've never tried the shake to carb method and really should once but I've never needed a keg carbed that fast and always had a good pipeline.

I'm with you Paul. If I need beer that quick, I'll just go buy it.

Re: keg priming
I fail to see how you're having a problem with the keg carbing. I press to 30 for a week, after having rolled it. Drop it in the cooler. vent. wait 15 min, vent again, and then start the pull. I don't add Co2 until it starts to need it.
