Sorry Jim, I tried to get back to follow up with you and my busy Saturday got in the way. In fact, I'm leaving again now. Let me know how that kolsh comes out.
I hope everyone had a great brew day and taught some newb how to be a homebrewer.

Got to AIH around 11:30. Had some nice beer samples, probably about 20 to pick from, plus a good assortment of food including Kentucky Gumbo. Bought 8 lbs of Munich LME for Octoberfest, plus hops, and a pound of Victory. A good time was enjoyed by all.

Day turned out good. Met some new people and came up with a new name for the beer due to some brew day blunders! Guy forgot to attach his false bottom which luckily I brought mine so we just dumped the mash in to my mash tun. Unfortunately we weren't paying attention and i forgot to screw in my manifold! So he attached his false bottom and we dumped back in to his mash tun. Turned out well overall. New name is Double Mash Tun Kolsch. DMT Kolsch for short.

Yeah, later I opened my iPad back up to check the battery and saw where you came in there. I knew up front you'd be in and out

Well the Hang Out didn't work out as I had hoped. I just couldn't get connected and when I did I just didn't work right. Any way It was a good brewing day here. 74* and sunny today made for very comfortable brew day. My Columbus Pale Ale went very good and without issues. Jeff, the president of our brew club made biskets and gravy for breakfast on his outdoor charcoal cooker, then made smoked sausage for lunch. Our club ended up brewing 60 gallons total and there were so many samples being passed around that I lost count.

Also I was able to pick up some hop plants from another club member. Cascade on the left, Nugget in the middle and tettnanger on the right.

Got to LHBS at 8 am helped get them set up in the parking lot, then helped mash in the first 30 gal. batch of wort, helped get some others setup, then back inside for the wort production. This helped me a ton as I am getting setup for pumping, he recirculates and pumps everything, I now have a better understanding of getting the setup together. I was going to wait until after the second batch of wort to do my boil, but realized I could get my boil done and cooled by the time he had the mashtun emptied and the strike water to temp for the next batch, was able to get back to helping with the second 30 g batch by a little after noon. Had about 15 brewers, and the parking lot between the boils going on and the mashes smelled awesome, got home about 2:30. My Variation on the CPA recipe is I added a gallon of spring water to my six gallons of wort to shoot for a session IPA, hop schedule
1 oz Amarillo @ FWH
1 oz Amarillo @ 30
1 oz Amarillo @ 10
1 oz Citra @ 5
Pitched the whole 1.2 Litre starer of WLP 001 into oxygenated
1.048 OG wort when I got home, this morning the bucket is bubbling away and have a nice 1/2" krausen going so far.
All in all a great day with weather and friends from LHBS meetings. When I left there was more beer being produced. I'd have to say overall about 125 gallons of beer were brewed or in the process by the time I left @ 2:15!

Like Steve, I got to my LHBS around 8:00 and helped set up. Andrew the owner ask if I would be the "Chief Brewer", directing the other brewers to what they needed and where to find it. Here is Operation Homebrew Facebook page with some pictures. Overall it was a great day. They did a home brewers judging home-brew competition, where you were given 3 tickets and voted on which ones you liked the best. No BJCP guidelines to follow, just fellow brewers judging on what they liked.

I was the only one doing BIAB and answered a lot on questions that people ask. From what's under the blanket to how are you going to drain the wort. I would explain with words and then show them as I progressed though each step. The biggest crowd gathered as I hoisted and drained 22lbs of grain using a ladder and little locking pulley. Quite a few extract brewers were intrigued by how simple All Grain brewing can be and I was 30 minutes into the boil before most had finished mashing.
A Toast to Big Fuzzy RIS in bubbling in the fermenter with a OG of 1.112. It's kilt brewed too.

Nice Jeff, looks like you guys had great weather too! We were full sunshine and 70 was an absolute perfect day. Only had one BIAB, one electric setup inside, and the rest were mashtuns or the boils from the supplied wort. I am going to brew again today at home, another perfect day here, we have a little recipe challenge for the LHBS brewers forum, which I will post in the What are You Brewing thread. Toast to Big Fuzzy going to be the perennial Big Brew Day recipe?

Glad y'all had great weather too, it does make an enjoyable difference.
Yep Big Fuzzy will be my Big Brew Day brew recipe. A lot of the guys ask if I was brewing it again as they were there last year and knew how it placed in the last two competitions. Going to take a few bottles to my club meeting tonight.

It's not easy getting that OG with BIAB. Did you sparge at all?
It really looks like everyone had a blast as I am jealous. I'll try to get some of yesterday's mojo by brewing today which is only 2nd place.

Hmm... I wonder if wearing one of my Kilts while brewing will increase my efficiency :)

It'll increase something... Might not be efficiency, but something...
