Popped the trub bottle of my tangerine Porter bottled with bourbon and oak chips. Oh my, this is mighty fine. The Porter itself, which has been on tap, needs some refinement. It's a bit muddled with not enough orange and maybe too much coriander. Clearly the bourbon was needed, as it presents with a smooth sweetness and balanced oak. Wish I made more than 6 of this test batch!

Didn't want to fill up on beer before our turkey dinner so we tried a couple of ciders during the games yesterday.

The Pear is from California Cider Company, Sonoma County. According to label "first ever perry cider to be made in California".
Very floral and pear aroma and a very strong tart apple flavor with a hint of pear and back sweetness. We'd drink it again.
- Gala Peach Cider.JPG (77.09 KiB) Viewed 1269 times
This one is from Windy Hill Cidery, York, S.C.
This also had a great floral aroma with hints of peach. It was much like the perry, tart with hint of peach and back sweetness. We will definitely get this one again next time we're in Trader Joe's.

I am once again drinking a sample of my Crystal Malt Mead.
Next week it will have been in the bottle for one year. That is pretty much a first for me.
This time the (12 oz) bottle sat out at room temp (high 60s) for a week before sampling.
Cellar/room temp is definitely the way to drink this.
At this point it is really smooth. But although a couple sips are really smooth, another will assault your senses a bit because it is unfamiliar/foreign.
Imagine raisin/fruit, malty, oak, some bitterness in a wine consistency.

Samples my trub bottle of my bourbon oak RIS. Mighty fine beer. I may have to do more special bottlings, as I've enjoyed tunes I've made. Couldn't do a keg of the bourbon stuff, but some bottles are good to change up what's on tap.

Been sampling the first tastes of an Imperial Common Beer after a week in the keg. It will definitely need more conditioning time at 7% alcohol, but it looks great, has nice color and is well carbonated.

Lots of homebrew......some need to condition a bit more but are enjoyable.
Then an Enjoy By, followed by some various other beer and finishing with a Firestone Double Jack. I sure wish I could get these locally. Just.plain.good.stuff.

Drinking a Stryker Triple IPA by Rhinegeist. I absolutely love this brewery. But this one is a little disappointing. There is very little aroma. To be honest, I've had pale ales that have more aroma than this. But the hop bite and flavor sure do make up for the lack of aroma. This one hits you right in the kisser. The flavor is full of citrus, pine and dankness. They got this part right for sure.

I had a couple today while I was brewing, a McSwiggins Irish Ale and a Everyday IPA.

Had a few Sam Adams Boston Lagers at a party, it was either that or Stella. I brought a six of my homebrew as a gift, ended up drinking one of them also.
