I take back what I said about the mosaic IPA
about a week ago. No matter how fast you can get make beer and turn around time, a little aging is good. This stuff is very excellent now.

I always could pour a good beer, bottle cans or draft, but taking a little while to get it down on my new system. Got it now. Mosaic IPA for my 2:30 break time.

Day 1: A little "when in Edinburgh"... after the flight, started at Doctor's, (which opened in 1718) for my cask ale fix. Belhaven's "Doctor's Orders" is simply the Belhaven House Ale on cask (apparently every Belhaven affiliated pub has this beer branded with a name specific to the establishment), and it was a fine ESB. Later, I sought out the Bearded Iris collab with Brewdog at one of the Brewdog pubs. Not on tap, but got it for carry away. One to open here, and two to pack. Now on almost no sleep for 32 hours (plane sleeping in economy a no-go) and 15524 steps, called it a night.

Day 2: After spending some time on the Royal Mile and castle grounds, we found a nice bistro that had a limited beer selection. But even though I can get this beer at home, went with the I&G (when in Edinburgh...). Then we went to the Queen's Edinburgh residence (Palace of Holyroodhouse) and had the Holyrood pale ale from Stewart (an Edinburgh micro). After the tours, found a small bar for dinner. The meat pie inexplicably came with a Sol Mexican lager(? Really? Wtf?), but I added an English style IPA from Maltsmith's Brewing Collaboration (a micro that Heineken has partially bought out). Much better... On the way to the flat, a stop at the grocery for snacks prompted a Brewdog Lost Lager bomber purchase... ehhh... nothing too exciting there... 24524 steps today...

Day 3: on to the Highlands... goodbye Edinburgh...

Looks good Swen. But I have to tell you, you didn't need to go all the way over there to get the BrewDog beers!!!!

I'm drinking the American style wheat beer that I thought was odd when I had the hydro sample. It tastes fine now. So I don't know what was up with that. The hops I used have lots of apple/pear/sweet fruit and it's nice.

Sweet ‘Lil Red the third time I brewed it and has been kegged every time, I am going to try and keep this as my house beer. 5.2, not much hops but malty.

Continuing Scotland...

We did a 3 day Highlands tour next, and the Loch Ness hostel we were hosted in had a nice bar with one local brewery in tap and bottles (as well as one cider). So...

Image
Black Isle Brewery Blonde
Image
Black Isle Red Kite
Image
Thistly Cross Traditional Cider

Then, after the touring was complete, we headed to St. Andrews to check the daughter out of the dorm. Her favorite study spot was St Andrews Brewery, so that was dinner...

Image
The wife had another Thistly Cross cider, while the daughter and I shared Bramble Saison and Yippee IPA (her two favorites there).

Finally, we finished out Scotland with a wide variety of beers...

Image
Brooklyn Brewery's Special Effects is a 0.4% abv (yes, you read right) hoppy lager that is currently Euro-only. You know what? I could drink this quite a lot. Bready, piney, sessionable. Really not bad. Surprised.

Image
Cuillin Brewery (Isle of Skye) Black Face mild ale (one of my favs on the trip). We had literally stumbled into this tiny micro during a stop on our highlands tour. Talked with the brewer, he gave me a peek around his tiny brewery, and so I bought the bottle reviews unseen. Was quite delicious...

On to Ireland...

Image
Changeling Pale Ale by Rising Sons Brewery

Image
Howling Gale Irish Pale Ale by Eight Degrees Brewing

Image
Stonewell Medium Dry Irish Craft Cider by Nohoval

We then went to a great local brewery, Franciscan Well Brewery in Cork. Loved this place. Great taproom, great beer garden, great pizza, great beer.

Beers...
Image
Franciscan Well Rebel Red, Friar Weisse, Chieftan Irish pale, Shandon Stout

Image
Franciscan Well Archway Lager

Guest taps...
Image
Big Bunny NEIPA by Kinnegar Brewing

Image
Black Lightning gluten free black IPA by 9 White Deer

Touring Cliffs of Moher, got lunch at a small brewpub. Limited options, but can't complain...
Image
Smithwick's Pale Ale

Next day was Guinness day... First, a baby Guinness...
Image

Then a full pour of the black stuff...
Image

Later had the Citra IPA...
Image

then had the Hop House 13 lager...
Image

Finished in Dublin with Cute Hoor Irish Pale Ale by Heineken Ireland
Image

Than, alas, time to come home. But free beers on the plane (though they aren't that exciting)...
Image
Shiner Light Blonde

Image
Shiner Bock

Throw in a couple distillery stops and a mead tasting, and it was a good trip...

Since it feels like fall outside; windy, cold and rainy, I poured a St Bernardus Christmas Ale.

Yea, what is up with our good northeast summers? I am still wearing a long sleeve shirt and drinking winter beers. I want cut off shorts, summer beer and maybe a cold margarita or two.

Jeez, you guys are killing me! We had a 'cold front' come thru and our temps were still 88 though the humidity was much lower. However, it's gone now so please send us more.
