because when I walked out of the cable company office after returning my old DVR box 9;30 this morning, I seen debris in the parking lot. And looked at my truck and yup.

A couple guys were standing there and said hey man we just seen that van hit your truck and trying to take off. It didn't get very far and I ran up to it to get the license number before he tried to take off again and then went to the drivers door and yelled WTF AZZHOLE, I seen that the guy was all confussed and couldn't roll the window down or open his door. I dialed 911 then this woman came running up to the van and opened the door to let the guy out. He is a mentally challenged adult, he was riding with the women when she stopped to run in to a store or something and for some unknown reason he got behind the wheel, put it in gear and floored it into the parking lot hitting only my truck and then back out onto the street. It most likely totaled the old van that's why he stopped the tires were rubbing the bent fenders bad. I'm glad there were a couple witnesses and I hope she has good insurance because I stopped at a body shop on the way home and the estimate for my truck is 5,100.

Very sorry to hear this, it really sucks and it's hard to tell but even minor damage to cars these days is $1500. I hope they are insured too and if they are, make them give you a rental until yours is fixed.

She has valid insurance, the guy driving didn't have a drivers license and never had and was blind in one eye. It got the front of my truck to where it got pushed into the guard rail, adding more damage.

Wow, Don, that's rough. I'm glad they're insured, though. They are totally culpable, and actually, I wouldn't be surprised if that woman is going to be facing other charges, seeing as how she left the keys in the ignition and a mentally challenged adult alone and unsupervised in the van.

I hope your truck can be taken care of properly, and in short order.

In the meantime, you definitely deserve a homebrew or three. So RDWHAHB, and let the powers that be sort this out.

Not only were the keys in the ignition, the engine was running. Atleast no one got hurt and the truck can be fixed..........but I've been so careful with that truck to keep it nice :(

That's tough. FYI, your comprehensive coverage would cover it as it as parked, which does not affect rates. And make sure you get money for diminished value if your state allows it.

My wife said that too but I'm really not bad on people. it was an unfortunate accident, all I want is my truck to be as it was when I parked it, I have my Jeep to drive and good thing that didn't get hit because that has a 'glass body and would have been in a millon pieces and I would have had to drive home on the frame. :) I'm in a lot better mood now after more then enough beers and I think it's still to early to stop now :clink:

Good for you on your perspective. It's a drag to have your vehicle hit, the good news is that no one was hurt. I've hit, and been hit, it's stressful. I've also pulled a body out of a car and seen the grief of the family. Much worse.

I think you're mistaken.

D Rabbit has been working in the insurance industry for a number of years, so he can probably set the record straight for sure.

My dad sold insurance for years, and I ended up learning a lot by osmosis, but I think there are differences from state to state and I also know I'm not an expert, but I don't think this would fall under comprehensive.

My understanding is that there are 4 broad categories of insurance for a car: Collision, Comprenhensive, Liability, and Uninsured Motorist.

Actually, 5. No-fault (not sure how many states have this; I've never lived in a no fault state).

Collision covers damage to your car when you're at fault.

Liability covers damage to other cars when you're at fault.

Comprehensive covers damage when there was an "act of God" (for example, a rock chips your windshield).

Uninsured Motorist covers when you're hit by somebody with no insurance (this happened to me once when my car was parked).

When you're hit by another car and the other driver is at fault, the coverage will either be their liability or your uninsured motorist coverage. Either way, it's unlikely that your rates will rise. However, due to quirks in how "blame" is assigned, it's possible that you could be found some small percentage at fault (if you had parked in another spot, your vehicle wouldn't have been damaged, so you're 1% at fault). But I doubt if your rates would go up unless you had more than one of these incidents.

You try putting a basement in your house, you'll end up with an indoor swimming pool.
