Well I managed to "free up" the necessary four remaining bottles last night and was in good enough shape this morning to bottle "one Evil Pilsner," made with some steeping grain and a hop addition. Looked and tasted pretty clear and good. This may be my last kit brew as I plan on going all grain for my next batch.
Cool! I don't think you'll regret it. My first AGs were SMaShes, still a little hectic. But 9 months later I'm producing some really nice brews, mostly all grain, and loving it.

Bottled a 5 gal. batch of Washington Presidential Porter today. it was brewed Feb 17 on presidents day. A robust porter with spices and brown sugar, will not try one until the 4 of July, I do this every year............

I bottled the Tennessee Cream Ale this afternoon.

I was gonna go to the LHBS and get the ingredients to make Lime Cerveza tomorrow, but I just didn't feel like going out after working this morning (and because it was raining, and just because). So I figured I'd take tomorrow off as a brewing day. But then I remembered I have the last recipe I ordered from Mr. Beer still awaiting fruition, so I'll make that, instead. HME, LME, and a brief hop addition, so it'll be a very short brew day.

Lincoln's Liberty Logger (except I'm using ale yeast, because I don't have room in the lager fridge).

Love the name, I get it. I try not to make myself crazy about volumes and efficiency. Close is good enough. I keep some LME handy if my gravity is low, or top off with water if it's high.

Dawg, congratulations on taking the step into AG! Cool that you made a DIY immersion chiller, too. Good luck with it all.

I like your idea of taking it slow and making your first AG a simple recipe. Very smart. Get your process down before you start experimenting with ingredients. And there's nothing wrong with SMaSH beers.

You may find this recipe to be a little more malty, without as much hops presence as some others, though. I tend to use a full ounce of hops for each addition in my five-gallon batches. Don't get me wrong; this will be a pleasant, malt-forward lawn mower beer, and for all I know it may become your go-to warm weather beer. I just wanted you to be aware that, from where I sit, the hops bill seems a little sparse.

Thanks Dave, been doing a lot of research through the Borg and reading Palmers book online. Thanks on the hops advise, i think I'll use .5 oz on the first three hop additions and 1 oz on the 15 minute addition, just rough figures take it from 17 IBU to 24 IBU, trying to keep it in the Blond Ale range. I found a co- worker at one of our branches was an AG brewer recently and he filled me in on the cooler mash tun. The chiller is a fountain pump type, and the ten gal. cooler tun was a pretty easy build too. Stepped up with a 6.5 G fermenting bucket, too. Never thought when I first brewed an MB batch 2 days after Xmas, I would be here this quick, but as others have said "It is an obsession"! :fedora: :thanks:

Thanks, try to come up with names that fit the beer and/or occasion. I have DME and LME on hand, the LME's, Munich, Wheat and Amber, I'll keep for quick, small recipes with some steeping grains. I will find out today on figuring out my water usage between the mash and sparge. :clink: :thanks:

No its just a porter that I add a few things too. I call it that because I brew it on Presidents Day and start drinking them around the 4th of July.
