Re: Four Point Pale Ale
I looked at this last night and it's already clearing nicely. The Joystick yeast really did a number and is flocc'ing well so far. I'm going to give it until Friday before hitting it with the dry hops just to let the yeast continue to settle.
Re: Four Point Pale Ale
Looking forward to see what you think of the yeast!

Re: Four Point Pale Ale
I'm changing the name of this beer to "Four-legged Pale Ale" since I've had to make so many changes. I went to dry hop this morning and somehow I only had 1/2oz of Centennial left so I used 1/2oz Citra and 1/2 Amarillo with it. I'm sure it will still be good, but with so many changes from your original recipe (none by choice, mind you) I can't call it the same thing.
I think it's going to be tasty anyway, just different than planned. and so it goes.

Re: Four Point Pale Ale
I poured a test pint the other day so I will do a proper first pour pic and review this weekend.
It was a lot lighter in color than I planned for, but I think that's because my LHBS had to swap out the crystal for a lighter color because they didn't have what the recipe called for - damn organic hippies here in California! ;P
It was good, but I'll comment more when I have the first true pint.

Re: Four Point Pale Ale
Ah, a proper picture:

Perfect for an evening post TaeKwonDo workout. Kotjing over-the-top or in-yo-face, just a quaffable pale ale.
A bit light in color, but no real complaint there.
There's enough bitterness to make a BMC drinker spit it out, but not enough to even register on Beer-lord's tongue [emoji3]
There's some hop character in the taste but nothing stands out or takes center stage. It finishes just dry enough to make me want another sip. It was a big hit at my BBQ last week so half the keg is already gone which is exactly why I brewed it.
Cheers, my friends. And thanks Chris for letting me rape and pillage your recipe. If you haven't yet, toss the bottle I sent you in the fridge. Ok, I know you're likely suffering from lack of sleep right now so don't actually TOSS it in the fridge....

Re: Four Point Pale Ale
Nice, nice and nice! But in the future, since I've trademarked my name, I'll have to charge you is you type my name. The fee is very small but I think fair.......1 bottle per use!
I've had Chris' version twice. Both times very good but the second was exceptional due to, I think, water treatments. It was pretty much as you described though it's been awhile.

Glad it brewed well for you Ron. Looks awesome. And thanks for the reminder to put it in the fridge, because your right, with all the going on here I forgot about it.

Re: Four Point Pale Ale
I poured mine tonight. Like you said, it poured light in color, but that's not a really big deal. I'll have to go back and look at the recipe to see what hops you used for aroma. There is something there familiar to me, but I can't put my finger on it. It's a good beer. I think it could be a little more on the malty side to better match a pale ale style. But that's neither here nor there. It's tasty beer, I'm glad you sent one my way as I thouroughly enjoyed it. Thanks much.
EDIT...looking back on the comments. It's definitely the Citra hops I'm getting on the aroma. The Amarillo must be mixing with it a bit, which is why I couldn't put my finger on it.

I'll also have to look back and see what my LHBS did in terms of grain swap. We had to make a few changes and I'm wondering if that made a difference.
Re: Four Point Pale Ale
It's been awhile since I had this available in the pub. I'm going to brew this on Saturday.

Re: Four Point Pale Ale
The last one was very good but are you changing anything? Hops, yeast, mash temps????

Re: Four Point Pale Ale
Yes, I'm making a very slight adjustment to the hop schedule. I'm trying to reduce the spiceness that I'm getting, most likely from the Chinook. No changes in yeast, mash or grain bill. Here is what I'm going with:Beer-lord wrote:The last one was very good but are you changing anything? Hops, yeast, mash temps????
