Downtown Amber Ale

I brewed this one following the recipe on line. The one piece that I'm unsure if I did right or wrong was with the hops. I boiled these with the DME to start but then I thought in the recipe it said to put the hops in the fermenter as well. Smelled a little bitter when I bottled so hoping I didn't screw up. I did the El Diablo the same way and it did have a slight bitter taste to it (along with a weird sweet taste?).
Any suggestions in the future, keep or toss the hops?

How long did you boil the hops for?
Any suggestions in the future, keep or toss the hops?
Did you put the hop sack in the fermenter (I always do)?
(along with a weird sweet taste?).
How long do you let the beer ferment before bottling?
How long do you let the beer sit in the bottles before drinking?

jp - boiled hops for 10 minutes if I remember the recipe correct.
Yes, I did put the hop sack in the fermenter. Wasn't sure if this was correct or not but assumed it would give some of the hop flavor and aroma to the batch even though I heard on the other blog that the fermentation would drive off the oils.
Let the beer ferment for three weeks, follow the 3 - 4 rule. Have not drank any of the bottles yet but did let the El Diablo sit for 4 - 6 weeks before refrigerating.

Looks like you are doing things right. Some HME's just take longer than others to condition out that cidery taste. For example Classic American Light can take up 8 weeks to get rid of the cider taste.
I've not tried the Diablo yet, so I can't tell you how long it needs. Just keep popping one a week, till it peaks, then make a note for future reference.

I think you did it just fine. I may have to try this recipe, it sounds pretty good and I've never had the American Ale HME.
