Liquid Wheat Extract is expensive

SWMBO doesn't really like beer per se, but has recently started drinking either a hef or wit when we hit breweries. She's also tried a Blue Moon which she really liked so I've been researching different recipes and found "the guy" on HBT that seems to be the one who had this dialed in.

Wanting to keep my brew day short I copied the recipe, then converted it to extract. I'll be by MoreBeer tomorrow to pick up my RCE supplies so I figured I'd pick up what I needed for this one, too.

Imagine my surprise when I saw the cost of Liquid Wheat Extract.

I may have to re-think this one.

If you've got a million to spare Jeff, I think it's still there.

Kealia, I'd be interested in that recipe. The Blue Moon Clone I made lacks zing. It was 7.5 lbs of wheat LME, 0.5 lbs of Carafoam, 1 oz of Saaz for 60 minutes, and 1/2 ounce each of Corriander and Sweet Orange Peel, both added 10 minutes before flameout. S-05 yeast. My son calls it, "light beer" in taste. It's ok, just nothing to notice.

They ended up not having it in the store, it may be a website only purchase. I picked up some DME to use in it's place. Since I've not tried this recipe, I just want to shorten the brew day as much as I can which is why I'm going with extract.

Rick, here's a PDF of all the recipes that this guy has tried. #8 & #12 have gotten the best reviews. I'm going with #12 just using extract instead of AG.

Mine will come out darker because of the extract, but if the taste is there my wife will be happy. Happy wife = happy life.

All kidding aside, since she is starting to drink hefs and wits that have the BM taste I think she'll be happy.

Edit: PDFs aren't allowed so here is a link to the guy's site where you can get it and read the comments, etc.

The first link on that page will give you the PDF and all the versions he has tried.

Thanks! I bookmarked it. Need to convert it to extract also, and then put it on the list to brew in the future when his and our BM inventory is gone.

Save the PDF and then just increase the size using your toolbar or the magnifying glass.

That's why I went all grain. I could see the writing on the wall for extract prices... :laugh
