Just discovered that I'm a fan of sours. And since BB2 decided that he definitely is not I had this one all to myself.

I don't know if this one was well made as I haven't tried others yet and this local brewery only makes one decent beer. Their IPA go figure.

He had a blind test ala Kealia's earlier post with Shiner and Warsteiner Octoberfests and picked the Warsteiner.

Grocery shopping has gotten substantially better since Kroger added the pint and growler station...

(l to r) Sixpoint Crisp lager, Turtle Anarchy Another Way to Rye IPA, Bells Oberon, Black Abbey Forty Four (a robust porter liberally infused with Kenyan and Hawaiian coffee, previously named POTUS 44).

A moutons wheat DME brew
"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain
-- Quaintest thoughts -- Queerest fancies
Come to life and fade away;
Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."

Here's a second offering. At the shop I was helping a customer, mostly answering questions from an intermediate brewer(for the record I mean extract w/steeps just starting to make his own recipes). When he was out of questions and paid for a couple things he left. Surprisingly was back in just a few minutes with a can of beer as thanks(not that I expected it) upon inspection I found I just received a can of Heady Topper by The Alchemist. I'd heard of the brew(like I wouldn't know it, that'd be like not knowing Pliny the Elder or Younger for that matter). I got to say this is one of the better IPAs I've tried so far.

Nice! I agree. It's a good beer.

Never had a Heady Topper. It's a beer I would buy to try if I saw it around here.

I'm drinking my Plum Saison. I mentioned it in a thread about the Nelson Sauvin hops earlier today and that make me want to bust into the bottles I hid away to save for later...

EDIT: And now I've discovered that Plum Saison blended with Tart Cherry Triple is really most excellent.

What are you drinking?

Post by BlackDuck »

A friend of mine told me to stop by his house after work. He had some thing to give me. I got there and he handed me a honey brown and a stout from Bear A brewing in New Hampshire along with a Smuttynose Imperial stout that was bottled in 2008. After a little conversation, he went into the house and grabbed two glasses and a shiny silver can. I couldn't tell what it was at first, then he opened and poured its contents:

It was really good, I'm not sure it warrants all the hype and high dollar on the black market. And I think Pliny blows it out of the water.

Hey All, Looks like October is "Drink Up Remaining Stocks" month. Just clearing out the partial cases. I have several Amarillo Lights, a half case each of 2 regular ales, and last night I had the last 3 Witty Monks. I have PISS-POOR temperature control,so once the furnace comes on my brewing becomes limited. I have maybe another 2 or 3 weeks where the brewroom temp is low enough to brew. I could let the windows open, but I'd freeze. My Brewroom is also my ManCave, where I spend most of my time during the day. Don't want to have to sit around in thermal underwear and a parka, just to read my E-mails.LoL. :freeze:

Wow, nobody is drinking anymore?

Last night I had a homebrew that blew my mind. A friend brought it over and suggested that I pair it with Mexican food - it was a jalapeno raspberry wheat.

I didn't get a picture, but I will try when I open the next one (I got 3). It pours pink, like a sour aged on fruit does. It smells of fresh jalapenos. Not "hot" but no question about what you are smelling.

Here's where it gets interesting.....on first sip it tastes heavily of jalapeno. Upfront, on the finish, the whole way through - jalapeno. No heat, just flavor.
But, after a bite of food (as suggested) the pepper goes WAY into the background and the sweet raspberry comes forward. Then it finishes with a bit of pepper and tingling on the tongue and lips. Crazy.

He also dropped off some pickled beans that he says are fantastic with this beer. Sometimes there are beer and food pairings that are good - this was incredible. I've never had a beer change the way this one did.

I enjoyed it and am glad that I had it, but it wouldn't be something that I would want multiples of. It was better than a novelty, but not something I would enjoy often. I'm still processing everything that I tasted in it, though.
