Had a Belgian Dubble based on Mr Beer's recipe and then a Wee Heavy also based on their recipe. The two have identical grain bills with 1 can of Bewitched Amber and 1 lb of amber DME. The Dubbel used T-58 yeast and I did a 15 minute boil with Saaz hops. The Wee Heavy used S-04 and no additional hops. It is amazing to taste the difference between the two beers. The Belgian definitely has fruity elements and the Wee Heavy has a maltier taste.

Drinking a variety of things from my pipeline, one of which is the latest incarnation of Trilby Brown Ale. Still not where I want it. I think I'm going to eliminate the chocolate malt entirely and pursue the color and flavors I want with crystal and caramel malts.

Don't get me wrong; this is drinkable, and by no means unpleasant. It's just not what I was aiming for. It's more of a porter in color and profile, so it's back to the drawing board.

This past week I blew through a batch of MrB ... the pale ale, what's it called, craft .... which I had added some extra hops boiled into their half pound lme to the mix. It was good, but eh ... yah good.

I prefer the AG's. This weekend I tapped a 5 gal corny of a batch I call "Dan's Wood Ale". I named it after my friend Dan who passed away

... he always said he didn't like beer because it tastes like wood.

I don't have my notes in front of me, but it's two row base, a bit of 60L, and a nice hop schedule of northern and centennial. Whatever malt of hops I used, he'd say, 'it taste like wood, can I have a diet coke?" You don't have to like beer to be my friend ....

If you're drinking at 10AM and you're not tailgating, then I'd say yes.

I'm in the same boat Dave, I keep hoping my brown ale will mellow out but I think I've come to the conclusion that I don't care for chocolate malt. We tweaked ours and taken it out but haven't brewed it yet.

I think I'm going to be drinking a lot of lemon shandies. I made a huge batch of lemonade for the kids at the home brewers club picnic yesterday and they all brought their own drinks. :opps:

Drinking my #1323 Innkeeper, a Northern Brewer clone of Timothy Taylor's Landlord bitter (CAMRA beer of the year). At 16 days in bottle, it is a good example of an English bitter. Definitely a session ale at 4.3 ABV.
