There's a Kickstarter campaign underway for a new yeast supplier trying to get started on the East coast. (White Labs and Wyeast are both West coast.)
Our goal is simple. We want to become a yeast distributor for the East Coast. We will have all of the standard yeasts, plus some interesting blends, and hopefully true wild yeasts from the local area. Our goal is to get into local homebrew shops along the East Coast and to provide high quality yeast at a reasonable price. This will be accomplished because every homebrew shop on the East Coast currently has to get their yeast shipped within 2 days, which can result in shipping costs that are almost the same cost as the yeast. New England Yeast will eliminate the high cost of shipping because in most instances we will be within Fedex Ground shipping of 2 days. This can be substantial cost savings for your local homebrew shop, which will be able to pass the savings on to you.
The guy behind this project owns and operates my LHBS. I can vouch for his brewing knowledge and expertise--but that's all I know. I am just passing it along as I found it to be an interesting concept.
He's selling a few strains already at his store, for $5.50 (White Labs and Wyeast are $8 there).

Wish him luck. Down rt 91 in East hartford is where my LHBS is. great guys, and their kickstart brewery in Bristol is sheduled to open soon. What a concept, kickstart.

I've been to the E.Hartford one. I liked it - seemed like good guys running it. IIRC, former Borg member DRabbit was going to be involved in their brewpub at one point.

He fell off the face of the earth.... I think he move southeast with his wife after just buying a house up here.....
They are great guys, real brewers, great info, and not looking to screw anyone. I've recieved invaluable advise, some freebies to make me more successful etc. Will talk your ear off with info if you need them to. Was in a week or so ago and they were brewing out front... . It's the only one I've been to, so I don't know how they compare, but they are slowly growing.
Looks like they get to keep whatever is pledged, regardless of whether they hit their goal or not. They've also reduced the goal from $10k down to $2k.
(See the first post in this thread to see what I'm talking about.)

As mentioned in a few other threads, I get some of my yeast from Southyeast, who also is an east coast startup who is doing a crowdsourcing. This thread details my current experience with their HS2 yeast, which was harvested from honeysuckle located in the Tennessee mountains. Pretty cool...
