Setting up Beersmith for LBK batches

Yes BrewDemon and Mr. Beer kits are pretty darn easy but sometime you need a little help from the Borg to get you on the right track. Post your questions here!

Setting up Beersmith for LBK batches

Post by monsteroyd »

Hi,

I do just LBK sized batches, and I remember seeing somewhere on this board a post about setting up beersmith for LBK sized batches. I have been searching for it, but I can't seem to find it. (Dang there are a lot of posts with 'beersmith' in them)

Does any one remember where that post is?

I want to start moving away from the MB and BD HME's and try some extract hop boils etc, and I think I need to get beersmith set up for it so I can get an idea of what the heck I'm doing.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If it is the one I think you are looking for try SMEIBB's Corner, and BB2 as the OP.

He did a post a while back about how to adjust some tabs in BeerSmith for late extract brewing and LBK size batches.

Repost or PM if you can't find it.

Set up your equipment profile, before anything else.

One important thing I would recommend is to boil some water (at the same vigor that you plan to boil wort) and measure your boil-off. Start with a gallon or two of water, boil for a half-hour and measure what you have left. Knowing your boil-off rate will allow you to start with the right volume of water based on the length of boil you plan to do, and the desired amount you want to end up with after the boil.

There's plenty more to it, but a lot of it is easy to figure out. I'd also recommend checking out the BeerSmith forum, as there's tons of discussions there about equipment profile settings:
