Stone Vertical Epic 090909 {18E Belgian Strong Dark]
This was a keg conditioned beer, which is a first well-enjoyed) experience for Brewbirds. Poured very dark brown to deep amber with ruby highlights. Formed a very cool brown colored head (light, not much retention). Small carb, and lacing increased with temperature. The aroma was floral over a chocolate, slightly roasty. Nobel hops well-presented. Super silky mouthfeel on full body. Unusual perrery phenol. Initial sweetness and vanilla ending up as tangerine with very slight lingering bitterness more citrusy than hoppy. It hits the type very well: quoting Mosher's TASTING BEER, "complex maltiness" & "fat caramelly malt barely balanced by hop".
