Flaked Barley

Post by Chuck N »

I'm going to be making a beer that calls for flaked barley in the recipe. Do I crush this along with the other grains or use it as is? It also calls for naked oats. Am I correct in assuming that I crush these as well?
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

You could crush them. I've used flaked corn and flaked wheat before and the LHBS usually crushes it with the rest of the grains, and haven't had any adverse effects.

I will drain that glass again.

Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."

I use flaked barley and have never crushed it, guy at my LHBS told me not to so I never have. Not sure it makes a difference, but that's just how I do it
