After I brewed this latest batch of FedoraDave's American Ale, I posted about how the yeast was really active, and blew off the bung to the blow-off tube twice in one day.

So last Saturday, I racked it to a secondary, and today, when I got home from work, I bottled it.

After I was done, I noticed that I had actually done the primary fermentation in the smaller (secondary) carboy, and was using the larger (primary) carboy for the secondary. I have no idea how I mixed these two up. But having a little less headspace in the primary probably contributed to the blow-outs.

Even so, WLP001 is one hella vigorous yeast!

Doh! Ahh well, the beer will still be good!

Sounds like a typical monday to me.

Aging is hard to deal with Dave but it's happening to all of us. But, the beer gods were on your side and things worked.
I have something fermenting with washed 001 and it took off so much I needed a blowoff for my ale pail. Only had to do that once before. Good stuff.

Take a permanent marker and put one and two on them or large and small. That way on the days you feel like blowing a bung you know which one to grab.

Yeah, I don't know why this didn't occur to me before. As soon as I got them, I made marks for every gallon. It just never occurred to me (until now) to mark them for primary and secondary.

I'm kinda stoopit that way.
