DRASTIC MEASURES TO KEEP FERMENTER WARM

Usually the problem down south is keeping the fermenter cool, but with the weather we've been having, I found myself in the rare predicament of needing to keep it warmer. My wife cam up with a unique solution. She told me to invite my brother over to help keep it warm. She said if he just sits next to it, all of the hot air he spouts should do the trick. That's my baby, always trying to help.

Well sounds like at least one room in your house will be warm Joe.
I have stuff to brew a batch but I can't feel my finger tips.
PS Joe's beer got tasted the other day and it is pretty darn good.

She still has to live with me, so I think she holds back a little.

We've the house temp set at 64.5*F. Seems the yeast can handle that temp. The fermenters are just setting on the shelf, bubbling away happily.

Well, I have to confess, our heater broke down, and I'm too cheap to have it fixed, since there's so few really cold days here. We're using a little space heater and extra clothes to tough it out, so the house is like 45 to 50 for now.

Keep us posted on those Lagers you'll be brewing Joe.

I used a regular old heating pad in my freezer/fermenter to keep temps up. Works good. During this cold spell wort temps dropped to 60. With the pad on low it brought it backup to 68 within a day and holding steady.

When I got home from work today, I checked on the fiver of 2Daves Irish Red that I brewed yesterday. Keep in mind it was in the low 30s all day today.
It was bubbling very nicely in the blow-off. Lotsa churning yeast and some mighty healthy-looking krausen. Temp at 64 degrees, which I consider perfect, especially for an Irish Red Ale. Looking forward to this batch being ready right around New Year's Eve!

If it were me, I would curl up with my fermenter under a snuggie. Uh..........
