Tonights offering was Men In Black IPA from Beer-lord.
It poured, well.....black :p

The aroma was both roasty and hoppy, an interesting mix of the two. I think the last Black IPA I had from him was more hoppy on the nose and less roasty but that was a while ago so I don't have a completely clear recollection.

The taste was a bit roasted up front, but much more hoppy on the middle and finish. I was afraid it was going to leave a lingering finish of roasted malt but it didn't at all - at first. As I let it warm up a bit, the roasted notes became more prominent. The mouthfeel was pretty light, similar to a Guinness. That's not a compliant or a negative thing, just a comparison.

I did enjoy this beer, but definitely more when it was colder and the roasted notes weren't as dominating. If you like IPAs and you like stouts, then I think you would REALLY like this beer. In any case, it is once again a good example of a well-brewed beer.

:thanks:

Chris thought the same about the hoppy nose and that it was less pronounced. This is the third time I've done it and my twin thinks the first was the best. It did have more hops but I've changed nothing from the first time so I'm not sure why. However, the original brewer had suggested that he experimented with 2 oz more dry hops so maybe I'll try that next time.
That said, I've enjoyed them all and like them best between cold and warm....the purgatory area that gives me the roast I like with some bitterness. It's almost not an IPA. Sort of a hybrid.

And, knowing your not a stout guy, you took this beer well.
