I know, lack of airlock activity on the bucket is not an indication of no fermentation. But we all want to see it right? So, 30 hours after pitching, nothing. But the temp was up five degrees. So it must be fermenting, right? I press down on the lid to make sure it's airtight. Still nothing. Just for kicks I push the airlock a bit tighter into it's gasket. Instant and steady bubbles. And it smells great.

2 reasons I hate buckets... cant watch the yeast... and the seals often suck so theres no airlock activity often.
2 reasons I like buckets... 5 gallon volume... easy cleanup... and my autosiphon works better due to the height of the bucket... THREE three reasons I like buckets....
I wasn't expecting a sort of Spanish inquisition...

This is my Wee Heavy from 3 years ago. That was when I learned about blow off tubes
Then I pulled the air lock out. It was like shaking up a coke can and opening it.
